BRoced Posted December 2, 2012 Author Report Posted December 2, 2012 what type of alt did you get (brand)? eBay no specific brand.. I just needed like 20-30 amps more but for 155$ for 140amp or 200$ for 180amp it was a easy choice it's got a 1 year warranty also

I just needed like 20-30 amps more but for 155$ for 140amp or 200$ for 180amp it was a easy choice it's got a 1 year warranty also lol ebay HO alts. you should just return it already. i've bought two different alts from ebay, both from "reputable" companies, and they were both shit. all it was was a stock casing with bigger internals inside. thats it. there will be so much extra heat generated from the bigger components, and the cooling design of the stock alt casing wasn't made to dissipate that kind of heat. not to mention it will do fucking nothing at idle speeds. likely going to have to keep your rpms above 1200 for that thing to output any power. and if you keep stressing it, it will just melt all the components inside, self destructing. both alts i had, had really cheap and shitty regulators on them. if i played a song that did NOT have a completely constant bass line, the voltage would be spiking to 16's or dropping to 11's because the regulator didn't know how to do its job since it was well, shit. both of them had 14.2v regulators in them, that charged at like 14.5 cold (normal) but then once they got warmed up, the max i would see would be like 13.7. now mind you the stock alt that was in there, was like 10 years old, charged 14.9 cold, and warmed up to 14.2. AND it held voltage better. what a joke. i still cant believe i wasted my money on those shitty ebay alts.

Well I guess we will see I mean I realistically need a extra 40amps or so and the guy has 4000 good reps with his alts and I looked threw them and people were happy with them.. But I understand you got bad alts but doesn't mean I will if it burns out etc I will just put the original back in but like I said I will be using max 120-30amps out of the claimed 180

zydrix Posted December 4, 2012 Report Posted December 4, 2012 Keep going cheap and your just burning your money dude X2. u should spend a little more an get an alt from a good brand. like mechman, singer, DC power an excessive amperage. those are the alts most people run around here. but u can also check into tenney alts, thats what i ordered an i like what i have seen from them. an then there is ohio generator and Iraggi alts. those all are better brands then the other 1 or at least seem to be. if im wrong on anything here im sure some1 will correct me My build 98 s10 2.2 3 american bass HD 15s with psi soft parts. (on there way here) atomic at-3000.1 (soon) 146.2 outlaw @39hz., bad alt an bad batt when termed (old 2 12" build) alpine 6.5s in doors infinty 4x6s in dash. clarion cz201 HU. mechman 240a H/O alt stuff i still need. SHCA 2/0 wire SHCA 1/0 to 2/0 adapters Atomic AT-3000.1 Lots of sound deadner new mids an highs, still debating on what to do. A few Deka g31 batts.

I had a coupon code and got the alt for 173$ shipped which isn't bad and like I said I wish I could get the DC but I can't afford it right now
