Question about alternator

OK I have a 2003 Mitsubishi Lancer OZ Rally and it has a crappy 90amp alternator now this is the first car/truck I've owned where my system can dim the headlights etc I never had a small output alt I guess BUT I just ordered a 180amp alternator and while I know it will be enough to power my 1000watt amp I'm just curious if there is a way to find out the maximum wattage amp I could get from this alternator (round about). Any help formulas, videos etc is great I'd just like to know so if I buy a upgraded system I can know what to look for thanks!

Difficult to say, you can do higher wattage if you do some extrabatt´s, it´s a math with to much variables, to give a correct answer. In the moment you´l be very fine

with your alt and your 1 K-watt.

Another side of the math is the amp can do XXXX watt´s put, but how many did he realy put out on XXXX music, is not to say.

Well I'm sorry I wasn't more specific.. I have a Optima yellow top, Big 3 (4g) gonna go 0g when I get the alternator in which will be 180amp.. I have a Stinger voltage gauge going to my amp right now and am going to add one to my battery when I get the alternator also which should be here Tuesday/Wednesday and in by Friday at the latest.. I know I had saw a video on YouTube about a formula but I can't find the video.. Thanks

With your alt and extra batt in the back you should see very little drop running 2k

Thanks I found the video I was talking about and he said 1700watts should use about 150amps as a ie so that gives me a idea right now I'm running a Kenwood 1000 watt amp but it's like 500rms being I have a 90amp alternator and it's using probably 70ish amps (lights, heat/ac etc) that gives me 110amps to play with I was just curious I want to get a L7 or something like that in time because right now I'm running 2 MTX terminators which isn't bad for a cheaper setup but I ideally want that setting off car alarms as I pass sound heh

Don't forget not all amps are as effeceint as others. What one puts out with the use of 150amps 1 amp might put out 1000 Watts and the another might put out 1200.

So a 180amp alt with an amp pulling 150 amps only leaves 30 amps for the car to run off of. Add more draw to that and you could start seeing some good voltage drops if you don't have a good battery bank. Your big 3 needs to be done right to or else you wont be using the alt to its fullest potential. Ground all amps batteries and the alt to the frame.

And it was just a reference I'm not gonna run 1700watts.. and I have the big 3 done properly and the amp grounded to the frame but the big 3 is 4 gauge which I will be changing once I put the alternator in I already have the alt positive wire with inline fuse 0g.. just need to get the block and negative which is simple.

did they include the dropping of efficiency as you lower the resistance cause that 80% is now a lot lower
