blake1886
I have two bic America rtr 1530 and I am wondering if I can buy a car amplifier that puts out 200 watts a channel or 400 watts one channel. I have a power supply from a computer that I trashed a little time ago. Will I harm anything if I use a car amplifier on my tower speakers? Bump4life
no but you better make sure your power supply can supply enough amperage to run the amp Buyer/Seller Feedback Thread: http://www.stevemead...5015-bump4life/ MB C220 153 Trunk Car Build Log: http://www.stevemead...d/#entry1840136 MB C280 Ipad Dash SQ Build Log: http://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/194484-bump4lifes-new-benz-tony-c-relay-kit-pictures-ce-electric-audison-front-stage-installed/ My SPL Log: http://www.stevemead...__fromsearch__1 BMW M340 xDrive Stock, for now. ds1919
yeah I kinda doubt that little power supply can deliver, and it will fail. You can find 40a 12v power supplies on ebay for about $25. A friend bought one a year ago and its still working fine.

zxsonnyxz
Why do people insist on doing car audio in their homes? Get a stereo reciever is my suggestion. WillPwn4Food
Receivers generally only put out an average 125/channel. For one that does 200/channel would be pretty spendy. Best bet is a dj/rack amp. ds1919
people insist to put car audio in homes because 1) they're broke and car stuff is all they got 2) its fun to try it out 3) to do it just to piss people off like you lol. yea its more work, it always runs a risk of introducing humm and noise, but sometimes it can be rewarding in terms of the quality. My Linear Power car amp sounds better than many home products. I dont really need it for my cars, yet, so why not use it in the house? I know for sure its better than (cant do vs here). Anyone can do what they want. The OP asked if it was possible, not advice on if its good or bad to do so. Answer is, you wont hurt your speaks if you use a car amp, but your power supply needs to be a bit beefier, to power a car amp that can deliver the nominal power to the speaks so they sound good. The little computer supply would be good for little speakers, little ones. Not enough for towers IMO. Try it out, it can be relatively cheap, maybe sell some of those old computer parts and use the money to buy an amp (stereo would be best in this case) and power supply. beaker
Would you put a crown amp in your car?
WillPwn4Food
If your car could put out that power via cigarette AC connector, why not? Max1636
As 'cool' as running a car amplifier in a home is a Home Theatre Receiver is the much better option for the application.
