subs don't hit lows

If you're box is tuned at 35, of course output is going to drop off at freq. lower than that.. saying you tried a 25hz tone and didnt notice a difference, might be because you are trying to play way below what you're tuned at. You wanna play down loooow like that? You're tuned to high in my opinion.

tuning isnt that relevant of a number to cause that(you should be able to play down to upper 20s with a good box tuned to 35.). You can tune to 40 and play mid 20s without issues. Tuning only relates to the box, once you factor in subs, power, cabin gain, orientation, etc. that number pretty much goes out the window.

yea, i already tried facing them forwards and backwards...didnt change a whole lot.

and yea, i think so, but since i wasnt getting any low end i figured i would lower it all the way just to make sure i wasnt cancelling any lower frequencies.

and...

subwoofer control 1:normal, reversed, off Set at normal

subwoofer control 2: (50 hz, ~75 hz, ~90 hz, 125 hz) (bass -24 to +6) set at 125 hz and usually around -15

bass boost: 0-6 set at 2

loudness: off, low, medium, high set at high because it makes door speakers and subs sound way louder and cleaner

HPF: off, ~50hz, ~75, ~90, 12 set at 125 because it keeps the door speakers from playing any bass and rattling

SLA: 1,2,3,4 set at 4 cuz things get louder and clearer

Try setting the subwoofer control to 75hz. It looks like it is the LPF for the deck.Try turning the bass up from -15 but set your bass boost to 0. Bass boost is bad and most of the time cause's clipping. Turn the loudness off to as it can also cause clipping. Mess around with these setting and see if that changes anything, but like I said try and keep the bass boost and loudness off

Edit: Also try and seal off the area around your box with the subs facing forward if you can

wow...so much input. thanks guys! and im actually uploading a video to youtube that shows all the settings and you can hear the changes. it will show you better than i could tell you...

there is the video of the settings. the air noise stuff is just in the video, not actually there in person. except for when i turned the HPF off because then the door and rear speakers try playing bass and rattle really bad.

EDIT: so i tried adjusting various things on the headunit like you guys said but nothing seemed to help the low end...just made things quieter in general since i turned "loudness" off and turned the SLA down too...i think it must just be the box.

Does anyone have a link to the old Torres that doesn't have all the glitches and stuff?

also, since i think its probably the box's fault...should i build another ported box or just go for a sealed? i can't find enough information on this model sub to know if ported or sealed is better for them.

Try sealing it off somehow first. Not having it sealed can cause loss of output due to cancellation. Plus that just adds more airspace that it has to pressurize. Take some card board and trim it so that it covers the area from your box to the edges of your trunk outline. Then trace that onto some mdf. doesn't have to be perfect as you can fix small gaps with duct tape. Sorry if I'm bugging you with this I personally just like to try everything

awesome, thanks. does anyone know if torres is working fine or where i can find the older version that doesnt have the kinks in it? i dont wanna design a box again if i know that the program isnt even working properly...

EDIT: didnt see the comment about sealing it off.. are you talking about the box itself or facing the subs forward and sealing off the trunk?

Try these settings:

Before anything, make sure your equalizer is set to 0 for each band.

subwoofer control 1:normal

subwoofer control 2: 80 Hz, 0

bass boost: 0

loudness: off, or low (setting this to low could possibly help low end.)

HPF: 80 (if it causes the door speakers to distort make it 100 or 125, but you might want to consider replacing those speakers if they distort at 125.)

SLA: more than likely needs to be around 0 or 1. This function is supposed to be used to make the audio levels of your different sources match each other so you don't have radical changes in volume when switching between sources.

Then go in and adjust your EQ as you see fit.

Just my $0.02

edit: Sorry, was looking at old thread, and didn't see you had already played with the head unit settings. Those are just my recommendations for what to have it set to. Those settings aren't supposed to be used to make your system louder in order to compensate for not having a huge high power system, so turning them down will make it quieter over all, but SHOULD also improve your sound quality, and reduce risk of clipping.

The trunk with the subs facing into the cabin

Should look something like this
