Jamez Posted December 17, 2012 Report Posted December 17, 2012 I'm pretty new to ice scene and I've got an old BMW 325i, I'm ready to install a decent install into it, I'm thinking maybe 8x12's or if I could get the room 8x15's as I said I'm pretty new to this and I'm well aware that the enclosure has to be right, this won't be for competition just self satisfaction, any idea's?? There's no way you could fit 8 12's or 15's in there without tearing the car apart and walling it off, which, even then, may still be tough. Jamez Posted December 17, 2012 Author Report Posted December 17, 2012 Thanks lads, yeah I've had the 2x12's and similar type installs, but here in England there pretty common and my BMW is just there waiting to be torn up and built to devastate the local communities! Lol so you don't think even with the right set up I could "shoe horn" the 8x12 in??
ds1919 Posted December 21, 2012 Report Posted December 21, 2012 Welcome! yah I agree, 8 12's in a 3 series bimmer is gonna consist of some sort of internal teardown. Lots of work, lots of wiring, lots of alts, batteries, etc. I'm thinking you want a daily driver, not a trailer queen show car, right? I know those trunks are fairly large, and instead of 8 12's, I would recommend 4 15's, arranged in some way that they can all stay in the trunk. Compound/Iso-Barik etc. I think with the right subs you could get 4 in there (subs that require small enclosures). And you can expect way more than the regular two 12's. Is your wall between the trunk and rear seat made of metal? On my 5 series, it was, and so was the rear deck. I cut those areas open which if it applies to you, is a must. Also, I believe the 740, or some 7 series bmw, has a high output alternator, like 240amps or so. It could be a bolt in. Might want to check that out too. Like the poster above mentioned, ask questions, check out other builds, go to local shops and chat with the installers. I did that back in the day and learned a lot!

Lol right my bmw I think has 90amp alt, so either way has to be upgraded no matter what I decide, originally I was thinking 8x SA-12's and 2xsundown3500's, it's also been thrown in the mix about earthquakes, 4x15 dbxi's and 2xph5000 I'm not sure I want a trunk system a really like the idea of ripping those back seats out, although as I said I'm new to the big install's I'm not sure either about the "best" small enclosure sub's e wry dealer tells you there's are the best, so what do you guys think?? ds1919 Posted January 5, 2013 Report Posted January 5, 2013 well, if you like the idea of ripping your seats out, then go for it i guess. take measurements of the available room for a box. if you have room for your intended 8 subs, then it could work. Many sub makers make great subs. What brand sticks in your mind that you wanna get? You dont have to say tho, this isnt a VS thread. But really, you cant go wrong with name brand subs. Just make sure you get subs that you like, that will work in the space permitted in your vehicle, are within budget, and will work with your amps.If you got time to work on the project, and dont think you're gonna change your mind down the road half way thru, or go broke (wire is expen$ive!!!), then why not? Or, for an easier route thats less daunting, and perhaps a middle step, and a step up from the basic two 12's that you said you see around town there, is how bout getting a couple custom made subs, like spl design? then you can run a couple high powered amps, you;d be doing hair tricks possibly, it would take MUCH less time to install, perhaps cost much less, and you could maybe rip that back seat out to get more spl loaded into the cab. Or a couple 15s or 18s!
