TSA.... You do nothing but cause aggrivation

I understand the logic behind having security at an airport, although I don't know how effective it's gonna be for someone really wanting to cause some sort of massacre. Everyone seems to think that a killer is only going to commit whatever crime it may be while on the airplane. The only benefit to a killer (as far as I can see) for doing it on the plane is that everyone is in a tight, confined space. If they can't get on the plane, though, they'll just go to the next "best" place: the security checkout line. If they go there on a busy day, there will be tons of people waiting in line to pass through security, and all someone would have to is just walk through the front door, make a beeline to the security checkout and detonate a bomb without even having to buy a plane ticket or pass through any type of security.

I went on a plane this last Thanksgiving, and thankfully didn't have to deal with any of the TSA stuff aside from a metal detector on the flight there and one of those X Ray ones on the way back.

Ok... for those defending the TSA, who has been on multiple flights? I would like a show of hands.

Yes- they do a service, but it is COMPLETELY reactive, not pro-active.

True story: I was on a flight one day- before going through security, while at the ticket desk everyone was having trouble: delays, cancellations, etc... Well there was a man in front of me who was middle eastern. No luggage, just a small carry on (think of a tiny laptop bag). He flipped his wig, cussed the people behind the desk, was very rude, etc... Everyone else was calm and understanding. This rude man passed through TSA with not so much as a double check. They eye balled him, but never pulled him to the side, never gave him a pat down, nothing. But guess who they did pat down?? A woman in her mid 60s. Really?!? This man was on my flight too. Before and during the flight his demeanor didn't get any better (talked poorly to the stewardesses, had to be told to turn off his phone multiple times) He sat right in front of me and 2 other guys had also noticed him. We gave each other the look as if yeah, if it goes down- we will try to handle this.

I guess what I am saying is this: Profiling is NOT WRONG at the Airport.... unless it is "reverse profiling"

I spent a hundred days on the road this year, completing a total of 28 flight segments for a grand total of 28,00 miles, awarding me delta silver medallion membership status.

Peanut butter needed to go if over 3 oz, even with seal.

Camel pack needed to be emptied or more likely tossed.

hair spray should have been tossed.

Tweezers part is just stupid.

If you haven't flown recently, you should know you have to go through EITHER a metal detector at the easiest, or one of the newer full body scanners. As a heads up, t-shirts with thick rubber graphics may set off a full body scanner, had it happen in TN this spring. Your bag will go through an X-ray machine. Be polite to TSA, do as you're told, and you won't have any problems with them.

Also, go LOOK at TSA's page before you go to the airport. Say a day in advance to your flight, go look at what you can and can't have in your carry-on and check luggage, such as batteries, lighters, and tools. If you carry tools in your check luggage, there is a very very good chance of your bag getting "special additional searches" in which case you will get a note in your suit case that looks like this:

Yes I got two in my suitcase from one flight, they checked my suitcase, then took my tool bag out, apparently fucking dumped it out, and then tossed everything back in with a 2nd note.

knowing what x-rays are and what happens when they travel through your body. i really don't like the idea of being forced to go through one of those full body x-ray scanners. not to mention it's pretty much the same thing as stripping naked for the guy behind the comp...

edit: i know sometimes there's other options and your not forced but still if that's the only option i really don't like it.

you caught me i know i have no where to speak in this matter. last time i flew was like before 9/11. :/

but just saying i don't like the idea of a full body x-ray machine.

You can refuse the body scan iirc but you will have to do the metal detector and a pat down if you do. I never refused and never say it so I don't remember. I know they have a monitor just past the full scanner that shows them where any possible problem areas are at. I was wearing a Lions T-shirt and the lion symbol on the back was thick, set off the machine and on the monitor it showed a blue person with a SHITLOAD of yellows blocks all in the shape of a lion on my back.
