There's a bit of a contradiction made by one of the pieces of evidence you presented n8

http://reason.com/re...nd-gun-violence

This article states in points 1 and 5 that violent crime rate has gone down, and that assault weapons bans are innefective

But............

From the Bureau of Justice site, the violent crime rate peaked in 1994, and has steadily dropped since then

http://bjs.ojp.usdoj.../viortrdtab.cfm

This drop directly correlates with the Federal Assault Weapons Ban of 1994

So, one can either decide that point 5 is wrong, as there is a direct correlation between the 2 events, or you can just say the violent crime rate just happened to drop for no reason when we issued this original ban

You do know the ban was lifted in 2004, right?

Yes, i'm well aware the ban expired without renewal, this does not make the correlation disappear

unless the rate just happened to go down the same time they banned assault weapons

You seem very good at gathering facts, but the facts you have listed all show the 94 gun ban didn't work.

You ramble about the 223 round and home defense, with proper loading the 223 round is a fine defensive round.

Check ballistics before you rattle off random stuff. http://ammo.ar15.com...WallBarrier.jpg

Do you remember this?

1. Which facts show the ban didn't work?

--- Unless you have an alternate causality for the decrease in crime rate, it would seem like a pretty clear correlation

2. Glad someone had some ballistics handy lol, but this raises more concerns for me.

------------ Why do you need an assault weapon to protect your home? Can you not stop an intruder with a simple shotgun or handgun? The only conclusion one can make is either A) You commonly have 30 people breaking into your home at the same time or B) You can't get the job done with a limited amount of ammo

come on man, just use your shotgun

It isn't a matter of what will do the job, it's a matter of what the constitution says our rights are.

If it was a matter of what will "work," I'd just carry around bricks.

Edit- While I'm thinking about it, have you ever seen someone that's been attacked with a brick? He would've been better off if they'd used the 223. Just throwin' that out there.

I don't even own a gun! I gave my guns away! Why would someone want to use an AR for home defense? Because they want to!

I love how I prove you wrong and you say use your shotgun, what if that shotgun was a Keltec KSG. LULZ.

In a defensive situation one can never know how many rounds will be needed. Do you remember Waco?

you're manipulating a document that's going on 250 years old to make it meet some definition of your "rights"

several people have stated we have the right to have the same weapons as our government

This is stupid

In addition to that, nobody is taking away your right to bear arms, you can still have as many freaking guns as you want, just not assault weapons

Good god, people have been killing each other with guns for hundreds of years, if you can't kill someone with a non-assault weapon, I have no words for you guys

PS- The "White Death", the soldier with the highest kill count, used a Nagant, take a hint from him, and get good with a simple gun

Just because they aren't trying to take away a gun you like this time. Don't mean they won't later. BTW the guns you keep calling assault weapons are really just dressed up hunting riffles. AR 15s are not full auto!

No. I'm stating what said document says is my right.

The Second Amendment: Militia, Sovereign state, Right to keep and bear arms.

A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.

http://en.wikipedia...._Bill_of_Rights

Furthermore,

  • "No free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms. The strongest reason for the people to retain the right to keep and bear arms is, as a last resort, to protect themselves against tyranny in government" -- Thomas Jefferson, 1 Thomas Jefferson Papers, 334
  • "The very atmosphere of firearms anywhere and everywhere restrains evil interference - they deserve a place of honor with all that's good" -- George Washington

Yeah, I know it's just two quotes, but it's things that have been said from the start of this country by the men who formed it's government.
