Mobileaudio25 Posted January 19, 2013 Report Posted January 19, 2013 If you heat ofc wire with a torch in order to solder once the wire cools is it just as conductive as it was before the heating?
Wicks Posted January 19, 2013 Report Posted January 19, 2013 Your biggest concern would be the solder joint itself and how well you soldered it. Google "cold solder joint". A bad solder joint can definitely hurt your conductivity and cause excess heating. Mobileaudio25 Posted January 19, 2013 Author Report Posted January 19, 2013 I'm not very good at soldering haha.... My DD woofers have speaker wire that comes off and I wired them to 1 ohm and tied into my speaker wire that goes to the amp... Even if it's twisted and taped do you think I should just skip out on using the solder? I don't have to have it... Just to be safe?
SnowDrifter Posted January 20, 2013 Report Posted January 20, 2013 Twisted and taped is not an acceptable means of termination. That's just asking for a problem ~~~~~~~~SAY NO TO PHOTOBUCKET~~~~~~~~ Snow's DD-1 tracks here: https://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/167433-snows-dd-1-tracks/ My take on OFC vs CCA: https://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/110381-things-that-piss-you-off-in-the-car-audio-world/?do=findComment&comment=2461444
littlehitter Posted January 21, 2013 Report Posted January 21, 2013 Crimp if you can't solder. But a couple scraps of wire and a half hour of practice would make soldering a much cheaper and more effective plan of action.
