So i have just got all the wood i need to start my box for 2 dc 15 xl. So i have this in torres for the idea i want to build the box but now im not sure on the port. So with my port length i have 18.25 to give me the tuning of 35hz. What i am wonder is which way to calculate the port correctly? Just wondering since the port wall is exactly the same distance from the back wall as my port width.

correct or not?

Hard for me to see the pic on my phone, but when the opening in the rear is equal to the port width, the length ends up being equal to the external depth of the box (nothing magical, it is just how the math works out). That is the actual length. Then add 1/2 the width for slot effect.

Edit - just went and looked at the pic. Your top pic is correct..

Current system:

1997 Blazer - (4) Customer Fi NEO subs with (8) American Bass Elite 2800.1s

Previous systems:

2000 Suburban - (4) BTL 15's and (4) IA 40.1's = 157.7 dB at 37 Hz.

1992 Astro Van - (6) BTL 15's and (6) IA 40.1's = 159.7 dB at 43 Hz.

This going to be sub up port up. double baffle 3 common wall

Box is

width 40.5

height 24

depth 19.75

Port is

width 18.25

height 5

length 18.25

So if my length will be close to the external depth then i would just assume 24 will be the length?

Sorry - just caught that, but it still works - physical length is 24, effective length is 26.5.

Even though the box will be facing upward, put all the dimensions in the calculator like it would be facing forward and see if it comes up with the correct calculations.

I am curious, since most calculators have trouble when this scenario comes up.

So i did switch the depth and height unchecked sub up and port up. I seem to still come up with the same stats.

That was always a problem with the RE calculator.

I have never used this one.

Where are you located in Texas?

Just entering the Torres above gives:

Enclosure Specifications:

Fb = 32.77 Hz

Vb = 6.65 ft^3

External Height = 24 in

External Width = 40.5 in

External Depth = 19.75 in

Port Width = 5 in

Cut Sheet List:

* All Dimensions in Inches.

* Wood Thickness is 3/4 for all Parts.

External Enclosure Parts:

2 x Top & Bottom (3 parts) = 40 1/2 x 19 3/4

Left & Right Sides = 18 1/4 x 21 3/4

Front & Back = 40 1/2 x 21 3/4

L Port Internal Assembly Parts:

Top to Bottom = 16 3/4 x 18 1/4

Physical length of the port is = 24 inches as noted above but you would not be tuned to 35Hz. And not sure if port area is optimal for those subs.

Yes, i have my cut sheet i was just wondering about the port because the end of the port was 5" from back wall same as port width. Thats why i wasn't sure what the physical port length was.

edit was also told 12-14in2 per ft3 is fine for these subs.
