HunterJohnson Posted February 5, 2013 Report Posted February 5, 2013 I use both. Welding wire for the long runs and under the hood, if it's a tight turn or area where I need flexibility ill use CA wire if its in an area such as under the hood ill wrap the wire in techflex Scion tC SQ BuildiPad mini, lots of fabrication, daily drivenFord Explorer C Pillar Wall Build Just a cheap car to destroy with bass
Nates_Veloster Posted February 5, 2013 Author Report Posted February 5, 2013 Thanks for the input for guys who are using it. I think that I am going to give it a try. From what I am hearing is the main issue is corrosion with it being pure copper and no coating. Raptorman Posted February 5, 2013 Report Posted February 5, 2013 You should be fine with the corrosion anyways. I haven't had any issues. 1996 GMC Sonoma Four Fi BTL Neo 18's In 2:1 6th Order Bandpass 2 Ampere 5k's @ .5 TEAM FI TEAM #LITHIUMCANTDEMO On 10/20/2013 at 0:37 AM, KillaCam said: Fucking with a Prius driver is like making fun of a disabled kid. armykyle1 Posted February 5, 2013 Report Posted February 5, 2013 Never heard of the wire having lead in it. Personally I like Knu 1/0 OFC. But any 100% copper wire that meets 1/0 true awg specs will perform pretty much equally. You pay more for a brand name, RF,Knu,Kicker and more for flexibility. Trying to get welding cable to go into an amp with a 45º input bend will be tough. Lead as in leader. Not Lead as Pb. You can call it welding cable or welding lead. fox_racin4 Posted February 5, 2013 Report Posted February 5, 2013 Hokay... Skimmed over this and heres my thoughts.. I have 10 runs for welding wire in my truck. Paid 2$/foot.. Not bad for 100% copper wire.. Welding wire is a little smaller then car audio wire.. BUT car audio wire is oversized 1/0 wire. The jacket on welding wire is retarded strong. I had a 6" section left an i tried to melt it. Used a propane torch with a tip that eill make metal glow red hot (bursomatic tip) Didnt even melt the jacket, heated it again and tried scrapping the hot jacket off on a piece of steel on the edge of my bench.. Again didnt even scratch the jacket. Where i have to run my wire is right next to my header/colector with a 1/2" gap at most between the wire and header, no issues... Id love to see a car audio wire do that... 1998 gmc extd cab 12 crossfire C710s 4 SAZ-4500s 3 Singer 400A altsbuncha mids/highs Team Asshole
Nates_Veloster Posted February 6, 2013 Author Report Posted February 6, 2013 Thanks guys. Great info. I'll get a build thread up as soon as the new amp and wire come in. I'll let ya know how it goes.
