It would do some good if we could get Jacob fuller in here to explain the revisions from one version to the other on say the z line. Since there's 4 versions now. And discuss how shorting rings and motors and different spider packs effect performance.

Setup:

Excessive Amperage "H/O" Alt

Xs D3400/ Xs XP3000

That would be great!

No, what we would really need is an unbiased 3rd party to put all these subs through a series of tests so they're all measured with the same measuring stick. Then you could compare specs.

This isn't about specs or testing. I want to know why a great spider pack is great. Why a surround is good, is it small for its excursion limits? some crazy material? Good mounting? Smaller more specific stuff.

From CACO:

What I am wondering is, if you're picking a surround for a high performance driver, you pick surround X, why? You pick suspension Z, why? What about Suspension Z is so great for high power levels? Does the material, diameter, number and size of pleats count for anything? What determines the stiffness? Is mounting special for Spider Z, is it better? I'm talking real specific stuff, down to tricks of the trade. "When I build a high performance driver I pick this part ____ because it does ____ well since ____" sorta thing?

I see now where you're going. Those "little things" are beyond me too. I think those questions are best answered with experience.
