universal is reconning from dual 1 to dual 2 if you choose to. Meaning exactly what the definition of universal is. The sp4 can be universal if you add the 30$ add on at purchase :)

I didn;t see the universal option on the sp4's that's why I was asking. All i see is cooling and space spider whatever that is.

I don't mean to thread jack... But is the difference in the outer diameter of a dual 1 vs a dual 2 coil really that significant?

All SP4's are universal (you can use a D1 or D2 coil in them when reconing).

And I don't see where universal is a $30 option. When I select it on a BTL, the price does not change.

Cooling is $30, universal is no charge.

Current system:

1997 Blazer - (4) Customer Fi NEO subs with (8) American Bass Elite 2800.1s

Previous systems:

2000 Suburban - (4) BTL 15's and (4) IA 40.1's = 157.7 dB at 37 Hz.

1992 Astro Van - (6) BTL 15's and (6) IA 40.1's = 159.7 dB at 43 Hz.

Scott told me that in some cases it actually had a negative effect for some customers. I think he mentioned the Qts change.

I gained with D1 coil gap vs. universal gap.

So.. universal comes standard on sp4's? because there is no option for it on them. Thanks

Yes. All subs are built the same and will work with a D1 or D2 coil.

I would probably go with universal. Not sure why you wouldn't. Are their any pros to not going universal?
