pontformulalt1 Posted February 10, 2013 Report Posted February 10, 2013 I am running a 320a alt. And (5) amps (2) zxs1500.1, (2) zxs1000.1 and a 650.4. Charging voltage is at 14.8. The problem I'm haveing is when I'm slammin at full tilt in between the bass drops my voltage goes up for a split second to 15.5-16.0 volts and is only shutting off the zx650.4.does anyone know where this over-voltage protection circuit is and how to disable it
SnowDrifter Posted February 10, 2013 Report Posted February 10, 2013 It's not just a "thing" you can go in and disable. Someone else who is more knowledgeable about amps will chime in, but as I understand it: the power supply of an an amp has a working voltage, both a minimum and a maximum. You go outside of these ranges and the amp goes poof. The protection circuit shuts the amp down before this happens. SnowDrifter Posted February 10, 2013 Report Posted February 10, 2013 You could also look into getting a different amplifier, or getting a stepdown converter or something to regulate the voltage at 14.4. This very very well could work. And would be my first choice of action. The water (demand) would pour into such a small shot glass, it would over flow, ...... SPIKE Get a bigger glass to catch the pour.... I had the SAME issue, and adding more bank was the cure. It seemed to spread the demand. And if im talking shit or not, it worked for me...?? No more amp killing spikes. It is where i would go, if i was you..... If you get a AVBM, i experianced id have to set it where the spike would NOT affect the amps, but, then, it would be to "low" in order to reach full output. Do i make sense? All it really does is trick the car's computer into thinking the voltage is lower then it really is, so it will compensate by raising it.
