Dwn4BassAlan
Dude I read you loud and clear about having a block. So I won't be another person hounding you about other set ups. A 383 is definitely worth the buck. Who cares how common they are. That's because they perform well. A solid word of advice, avoid scat cranks right now. I know I know, good product, good reputation right? Not lately. I've seen multiple scat cranks at the track coming apart in the last few years as well as two of them laying down on me breaking near the number 3 journal on both mine. "Oh but you had a warranty right?" Sure, but who wants to pull it all back apart twice in two months just because the warranty got you a new one? Eagle was the route I went next and I'm happy now for 2 years. You can budget a lot of the build, including machine work if you shop around. However, don't skimp on quality when it comes to machining. Find the guys with a clean shop that takes pride in their work, a good reputation and makes you feel comfortable with no sketchy behavior. A good machine shop is the difference between having a run of the mill small block and a beast just as much if not more so, than the products you put into the build. They can even help you with recommendations on products/kits. I say go for it, but like its been said before always plan to spend more than initially figured. I don't think you'll be disappointed. Good luck. [email protected] if you have more questions. Thanks man, just the advice I was looking for. And yea, I planned on spending the most on machining, crank, camshaft, pistons, and heads, not that the rest will be cheapy crap, but not top of the line, aluminum forged blah blah blah, just something quality Biomedical/Behavioral Science Major, The (Self-Proclaimed) Undisputed-Homemade-Woofer-King Super-Neodymium-Woofer Build Log: The D4BA-V.2 http://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/169236-diy-super-neodymium-woofer-build-log/?p=2475620 Fucking love Alan you goddamned fucking super nerd lol When Alan uses big words I don't understand It's warming up enough that the donut-punching cyclist douchenozzles are getting their two wheeled fagmobiles out. Tarball
will you be running auto or standard shift? Reason i ask - and its been a while - when i looked into doing a SBC stroker I was running a stick shift. And the 383 kits used a 400 crank. The 400 crank is externally balanced and requires a matched flexplate, and they didnt make a flywheel that was balanced to the 400crank when i was looking. They may have internally balanced 383 cranks now- idk. If you are running an auto-tranny this is irrelivant. Well unfortunately it won't matter. but I appreciate your concern of what would have been relevant as I'm running a muncie 4-spd, but it's not a problem anymore because I will unfortunately have to scrap this idea for now as my car repair was double the amount I expected...... I had the body-to-frame bushings replaced which is most likely the longest and most difficult "technically routine" maintenance repair out there, and the amount of rot and rust only made it worse. When they finally were able to replace them, the whole car was unaligned, I mean EVERY fender, doorpanel, bumper, trunk, and hood piece was out of whack because of how badly rotted the original bushings were, so I had to get the entire thing realigned, then I wanted to add a 12-bolt posi while we had everything out, and there was some main bolt type pieces that basically held the car together that was mangled and rotted beyond belief , so I had to order that, and then I had to replace more of the drive train that I thought to adapt for the posi, so I basically had to re-do the entire read-end..... I don't have the exact final yet, but BEFORE TAXES I'm looking at around $2500........which leaves me with $600, so I have nothing to start this engine on, but thanks for the tips guys Biomedical/Behavioral Science Major, The (Self-Proclaimed) Undisputed-Homemade-Woofer-King Super-Neodymium-Woofer Build Log: The D4BA-V.2 http://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/169236-diy-super-neodymium-woofer-build-log/?p=2475620 Fucking love Alan you goddamned fucking super nerd lol When Alan uses big words I don't understand It's warming up enough that the donut-punching cyclist douchenozzles are getting their two wheeled fagmobiles out.
