Building a 383 Stroker??? Good Idea?

Recommended Posts

Alright, so I'm SERIOUSLY considering building my own engine instead of dropping $3500 or more on a completed crate engine.

I'm DYING to get 425+ hp and toque from my engine ever since I had to replace a bunch of stuff and my HP magically dropped from about 418? and no matter how I've had it tuned it won't get back, I'm assuming it was the intake replacement and the headers, but I'm down fixing or tinkering with this one, I want something brand new!

I planned on using my 350 4-bolt main block getting bored .030 and then ordering a kit that includes the camshaft, pistons, and the crankshaft and most installation things, then then I would buy the rest of the things I need, too much to list but I know everything I need.

I see myself saving $1000 or more by then end of it, especially if I save my block. Has anyone ever built an engine using a kit like this?

And if so, what results have you been getting? I see alot of places where it could be both very worth it or not.

Fucking love Alan you goddamned fucking super nerd lol

When Alan uses big words I don't understand

It's warming up enough that the donut-punching cyclist douchenozzles are getting their two wheeled fagmobiles out.

Everytime I see a guy driving a mini cooper I cant help but think he loves cock & (2/29/16)-My wife just bitched at me about throwing out things we don't really use. My response of well we don't really use your vagina so should we throw that out was evidently not the right response. I had to leave the room.

I missed Alan.

RIP 5/29/15 - I love you son.

i havent read much about the chevy strokers. but i read alot on the ford strokers and what not.

first thing i would look at is the ring clearance between the oil ring and the piston ring.

ive seen alot about having too little gap such as the 347 stroker had alot of problems because that gap was a little less than a nickel. if you dont have the money to keep replacing them then either lowering your stroke or getting a bigger block was a better idea.

but good luck! should be pretty gross.

What are you running now? What heads do you..like machine work, heads, fueling the engine..if you plan on spending 3500...save 5000 plan on running? Heads are expensive and your not gunna make power without a nice set of heads....small block chevy stuff is cheap...very cheap..its the machine work that gets expensive...look into all of your costs before you jump into somethimg

i have built a 454 and a 383 and its not hard at all..

the 383 we had to grind off some so the rods wont hit against the block and also had to get a camshaft with smaller lobes because the rods against the cam and cause it to not turn over

i seen you post that you live in LA. have you considered going to team c and buying a short block from them?

yea but my whole point is not to spend $6000 on the engine, and I need to to be a little more street friendly than strip, since it's my daily driver still. I want to to able to do both, but it will still be mostly street,

I already have a block, I'm trying not to spend any money I don't absolutely have to.

then grind the block for the rods, smaller cam, Sportsman or used Vortec heads, maybe find a dual plane Vortec intake used.

All up to how much you wanna spend & how much power you want.
