Kinda depends on how safe the routing is from alt to batt. perfect answer - if its a short run with zero chance of anything hurting the wire, i don't do it. If you somehow, someway had an incident, just shut the car off. Done. put a fuse in front of each battery in the car though. Those don't stop putting out power when you shut the car off LOL.
