alpinef150 Posted March 30, 2013 Report Posted March 30, 2013 I built a ported box today for 2 18'' PSI platform 1 today, and decided to test everything before I put the finishing touches on it. it was not sealed completely, but glued and screwed. I played the subs and it sounded terrible. they are dual 1 ohm wired series parallel to a 1 ohm load on a hifonics hfi 1000.1. This was my first time making a square port so im not sure if the port is correct. it seems way too big, but I followed the rule of thumb about having 12-16 in^2 of port area per cubic foot of volume. I think it comes out to 14. any advice is appreciated. I made the port removable so If the port is the problem I can swap it out. I have a screenshot of the torres box calc dimensions but I cant figure out how to post it on here.
ric006 Posted March 30, 2013 Report Posted March 30, 2013 what are the demensions of the box port ext
RooTxBeeR Posted March 30, 2013 Report Posted March 30, 2013 There is no screenshot that you posted. Also, did you properly make a cut sheet from the box calc? There's more to it than just coping the dimensions that you put in each box. The port length actually needs to be calculated from the box on the right displayed as, physical port length. How big did you mmake the box? alpinef150 Posted March 30, 2013 Author Report Posted March 30, 2013 how do you post a pic on here so you can see the dimensions. and thanks!
alpinef150 Posted March 30, 2013 Author Report Posted March 30, 2013 in the mean time the box is 15.54 ft^3 net, the port it 13.5 tall x 17.5 wide x 15.25 long. the calc says its tuned to 37.92 and gives me 14.6 inches of port area per ft^3. the port seems huge though like I said. I can almost crawl inside it.
saltylake Posted March 30, 2013 Report Posted March 30, 2013 make sure the polarity is right, i know if one is wrong it will just not sound good at all. and you also said it was not sealed completely
