GatiBeats Posted March 31, 2013 Report Posted March 31, 2013 I have a RF T1500-1bdcp and RF T400-2 that I was hoping to fuse at the distribution block. The fuses on the block are 100a and 150a. The 400-2 recommends a 100a fuse, so im ok there, but the 1500 recommends a 200a, so im 50a short on that one. Does the 1500 really need a 200a fuse, or should the 150 suffice? 06 pontiac grand prix alpine ida x100 rf t2 comps rf t1500, t400-2 knu 0 big 3 xs d3400 oct 11 tentatively: 2 obsidian 18 v2's
Tarball Posted March 31, 2013 Report Posted March 31, 2013 See if the 150 blows. Probably a good idea to fuse to spec assuming you are running sufficient power cable to the amp. sprkn_ranger Posted March 31, 2013 Report Posted March 31, 2013 You don't fuse to protect the amp, you fuse to protect the wire...the amp should have it's own on board fuses for protection. Now that being said, if the amp pulls 200A from the electrical, then you need a power wire capable if handling that amount if current (and even more just to give you some headroom) and then you need to get a fuse that is rated at, or a little less then the cables rating. So here's an example...if you amp will pull 200A of current, then if you got a power cable rated at 250A then that would be sufficient, and then get a fuse rated at 220A-250A. Not all amps have internal fuses. Yea, but if you use proper sized wire for power supply, fuse the wire properly, and have sufficient enough electrical to feed the amp, then your amp will not be damaged unless something is wrong with it internally. An amp will only pull as many amps as it needs...you can't pump more amperage into it and damage it...it doesn't work that way. I have 1 run of knu Fleks rated for 375a that runs to the dist block behind the back seats where it splits into two runs of fleks 1/0. I have a fuse holder with three 120a fuses in parallel (360a) about a foot back from my battery under the hood, and I have the fused distribution block I was describing earlier in the trunk about two feet before you get to my amps. The amps do not have internal fuses, so my line of thinking was to fuse for the wire up front, then fuse for the amps in the back at the dist block 06 pontiac grand prix alpine ida x100 rf t2 comps rf t1500, t400-2 knu 0 big 3 xs d3400 oct 11 tentatively: 2 obsidian 18 v2's
GatiBeats Posted March 31, 2013 Author Report Posted March 31, 2013 so youre saying that the fuses in the d block are not needed as long as I have it fused to the wire up front? 06 pontiac grand prix alpine ida x100 rf t2 comps rf t1500, t400-2 knu 0 big 3 xs d3400 oct 11 tentatively: 2 obsidian 18 v2's
