Can a capacitor ruin a alternator?

Recommended Posts

So it seams like its not a cap then. Its just awsome that a HO and a new factory would cost roughly the same. I havent got around to the big 3 yet, but i plan to when i put my new NVX 12 in. I havent noticed any parasitic loads. Voltages appear to be fine. Also what do you mean test for power draw with the car off?

What is your voltage? I want an accurate, hard number here. "Appear" doesn't quite cut it. The difference between 13v and 14v is the difference between getting one step closer to your problem and... Well... Not.

Same thing regarding a parasitic load. You might notice it, you may not. If it's bad, your car won't start. But if it's enough to discharge the battery, but not enough to completely kill it: there's a good chance you will be going through alts like you are now. Hence why I ask

Sounds good. Measure voltage car off, at idle, and revving at 2000 rpm :)

how do you have your gains set, clipping can certainly contribute to the issue.

I think my gains are set alright. I dont have a dd1 ? so i have to go by ear.

Car off for a few hours, 12.62v

Car running at idle, 14.37v

Car running at 2000rpm, 14.39v

A parasitic draw test over at least 20 minutes concluded .04A

I feel like those voltages are okay.

No big parasites right?

i wonder if a dead cell in a battery might cause excessive drain? or the battery cable is corroded inside. big 3 upgrade helps a ton. but im no expert

and i saw some alternators on ebay. a blazer i had was gonna be like $180 and my tahoe is gonna be like 130 and thats for a 220 or so alt.

ahhh the dead cell i have experience with this ever start a vehicle only to kill it when you turn on the ac and then again when you turn it off good times good times

but if you would have read you would noticed he did a parasitic draw test to conclude that it isn't the battery and ebay really i don't mean to beat you into the ground with run-on sentences but really there are a few good ones but most will barely do better than your factory alt
