alpine tweets not good enough, need better

Thanks I am learning just seemed logical. I don't see how off axis pointing at the windshield will make it louder than ear level pointing at the listeners head. Though I have both setups with my tweeters in the kicks and off axis pointing at the windshield and both do work.

I don't think that its not good enough sounds like you just need more tweets or a super tweeter to balance it out.

wrong..... try your placement as suggested first..... if not then start to look for new drivers but obviously don't just get super tweets cuz they're loud... way better options most likely before you jump the gun on that

First off, all acoustics in every car is different, even the dashboard still can affect the listening/sound of a stereo.... Basically pointing the tweets at or towards the windshield creates reflections and in some cases (usually anal SQ peeps) is considered undesirable... The reflections can sometimes makes the output "seem" louder because of how it is bouncing off of the windshield....

When I was having issues with the sound on my tweets a suggestion I was given by Randal aka Cableguy on here was to aim the tweets to the rear-view mirror so they were not far off-axis and giving a somewhat narrower playing field.... it did help with some of the frequencies I was displeased with but unfortunately the output just isn't there for me and I cannot do alot with install in the location they are in... What I have done is decided to get a hlcd and see how that goes... not cheap but they seem to be what I am looking for in terms of clarity and output without sacrificing frequency bandwidth like you would with a supertweeter ....

I'm an idiot and type like one too.... fixed a word

I am running Rainbow CAL 25 Fabric Domes since I didn't like the tweeters that came with my comp set either and I am very impressed.

Where are yours installed? A-pillars or doors? just curious

In the doors right next to the mids, 06 Ram regular cab non-Infinity system.

The doors had 6x9s now they have these: http://www.autotoys.com/pics/speaker6901.jpg

I'm gonna hate

If I ever do tweets in the dash I supplement them with tweets in the doors/pillars as well. I prefer off-axis listening and always had the dash tweets in my last ride on deck power since they don't need to be loud sitting right in front of a giant waveguide aimed at your face. That's just me though.

Gotcha.... I have an adapted like that but I'll be making MDF rings for the mids soon..... probably Mach 5's OR investing in Exodus Anarchy OR Peerless 8" HDS .... we'll see after I get a job where it goes from there.... lol ... without money I'm just stuck with what I got

I also would like to make my own adapter plates, something a little more rigid than what I have would be ideal given I have 600w doors now.

I'm gonna hate

the tweets frequencies change when they are pointed away. it sounds more subdued in the killer high frequencies but the distortion is still there when i turned them up. i lowered the DB going to the tweets to stop the distortion but i was not able to get them loud enough to be able to clearly hear vocals. the largest boost in high range frequencies ive gotten has been from replacing my 6.5's to the 10's. the tweets sound great until the volume goes up and then they get kinda unstable. the frequency curve to volume seems to get skewed. there are spikes in a few ranges that over power and distort

nothing, gutted
