RooTxBeeR Posted April 16, 2013 Report Share Posted April 16, 2013 Well my dad's computer got infected with the Moneypak virus, which wasn't that hard to remove. The only problem now is that every file on the computer, like pictures and videos in the default libraries for those types of files are now .html files that bring you to a Moneypak scam. Is there any way to get these files reverted back to normal? They lost a lot of pictures because of this and I'm curious if there is any way to recover them. Also a system restore to a previous date does not help. They are still like that no matter how far back I go. They have a cd back up from a few months back but that would be missing some of the pictures they recently added. rusty959 Posted April 16, 2013 Report Share Posted April 16, 2013 are the file sizes of the pictures still about what they should be or say a kb or two? if they are only a kb or two, the picture data is gone unless it has been moved. The fact that the files actually contain an html document makes it seem very unlikely that the picture content is still there, plus from a programming prospective it would be easiest to just replace each file with a different one with the same name. Best thing I could say to do is right click and go to properties of one of the pictures and post what it says here. Cboeger Posted April 16, 2013 Report Share Posted April 16, 2013 You can try this, if your on windows 7 start menu>default programs> set html files to open with windows picture viewer or whatever its called if it gives you an option. They do seem like normal picture size, he did one and said it was a few mb, so hopefully something can be done here. My friend had the same issue but everything was opening with adobe reader. I just had to download the script to default the adobe settings on their own and it fixed it. All your files are intact so before you do any of this stuff BACK THEM UP!!!! You will be able to open every single file on another computer, its just that the malware fucked up the associations.
