Stephen Dunnington Posted April 19, 2013 Report Posted April 19, 2013 I fried my alternator a couple of weeks ago after it's been tortured and now it's time for a new one, the only one that I can afford and in stock is a Durlast 80 amp Alt. I'm running 2 12's(800rms/1600w) on a alpine mrp-m500(500rms/1000w), I'm wondering with if it'll pull too much or dim the shit out of my lights. Also, What should my voltmeter be reading?
Moreno93 Posted April 19, 2013 Report Posted April 19, 2013 that Alpine isn't pulling that much. But i'd still say save up to get a good alternator. That way you dont have the same problem. ( & for future upgrades ) When the car is on it should read about 14.4v while off 12.3v ish.
larrys95civic Posted April 19, 2013 Report Posted April 19, 2013 The spec's of your subs don't matter, but for a 500 watt rms amp you should be fine on 80 amps. And it depends on whats going on in your car as to what your volt meter should read also depends on your battery and if it's junk or not. but anywhere from 14.4 to 12.6 I guess. But thats just a guess, if it gets to 11 or even close to 10 you gots issues. My belt kept getting loose constantly for a month till I fixed the mount, ran 8g wire, and the alternator hasn't been replaced since 2002...
