That sub is rated for 2k rms, but will easily take 4k or more if the power is clean. An playing below tuning to far can also cause a sub to heat up My build 98 s10 2.2 3 american bass HD 15s with psi soft parts. (on there way here) atomic at-3000.1 (soon) 146.2 outlaw @39hz., bad alt an bad batt when termed (old 2 12" build) alpine 6.5s in doors infinty 4x6s in dash. clarion cz201 HU. mechman 240a H/O alt stuff i still need. SHCA 2/0 wire SHCA 1/0 to 2/0 adapters Atomic AT-3000.1 Lots of sound deadner new mids an highs, still debating on what to do. A few Deka g31 batts.
Guest Posted May 1, 2013 Report Posted May 1, 2013 well can voltage dropping that much cause the amp to clip easier? because the coil cooks easily on a 2k rms hdc4 im assuming the amp is clipping causing that yes. less source voltage = less power outputted. if you're making a 4" coil smell on 2000rms, you're doing something horribly wrong. the hdc4 can take 4k easy.
Guest Posted May 1, 2013 Report Posted May 1, 2013 AQ amps even come with a clipping light. there is no way you can be messing up that bad with that feature (not perfect, but its a decent indication)

An playing below tuning to far can also cause a sub to heat up set gains with a dd1 but the knob shows clipping still. the sub would pop like its bottoming out. Going to get a 250+ amp alt and it should be fine. as of now i will play it where the knob shows no clipping.

And what type of music do u play? the box is about 4.5 cubes tuned 28 hz with re box calc... thats not the problem though the amp is clipping at low gains I set it with track 5 it was clipping hard then track 3 and it was clipping a little bit. has to be my electrical i play decaf

soundstream15 Posted May 1, 2013 Report Posted May 1, 2013 I run the AQ2200 at 1ohm, I have big 3 done, stock 105amp alt, kitneik hc1200 in the back and that's not enough for this amp, I'm dropping to 12.7 lowest on low notes. I used the -10db track and I'm running that amp on 2 sundown sa 12s without zero issues and I play decaf. So to me, I think your doing something wrong, don't go by the clipping knob, it goes of a rail voltage. Your voltage is way to low and you should not be at .05ohm with stock alt and a small battery for the rear. I suggest you don't play full tilt, until you fix your electrical
