What's a good 18 inch sub

Well maybe someone else can chime in to give you some other ideas, but here is a build list that I came up with.

Two Obsidian 18's: $380 + shipping

http://obsidiancaraudio.com/index.php?id=9

SQ2200 amp: $429 + shipping

http://www.soundqubed.com/Q1-2200D_p_31.html

50' Spool SHCA 1/0 guage OFC: $163

http://www.ebay.com/itm/OFC-50-ft-Spool-1-0-Gauge-AWG-BLUE-Power-Ground-Wire-Sky-High-GA-ft-COPPER-/281101866898?pt=US_Car_Audio_Power_Speaker_Wire&hash=item4172fa1792#ht_521wt_932

Assuming your buddy can build your box for ~$300

Sound deadener: ~$150

Just figure an extra $100 for lugs, terminals, heat shrink, speaker wire, fuses, fuse boxes, and other various accessories.

So you're at about $1222 before shipping, say $1350 (overestimated) shipped for everything to get a decent system with two Obsidians.

I personally wouldn't get anything more powerful without upgrading that alt.

Oh, if you are looking at SMD 18's, thats kinda out of my league to make recommendations on. You're talkin competition level stuff right there. Maybe someone else could make a build log recommendation for you. Those SMD 18s are some bamf's

.Even with just the single aq2200 your going to need a min of 1 extra bat. And preferably replace the yellow top. I know they are expensive but i have 2 xs d3400 and i have practically no voltage drop from 2 aq1200.1 on stock alt.

smd woofer is a grand. out of your price budget.

I'd be inclined to get an sq 3500.1, alt, and two hdc3 18s. should come around under your budget I think...

identical woofers. one isn't going to be much better than the other since its just a 2.5 inch coil with a triple stack motor. for the sa and vvx and oa series that is. there is only so much you can do with that setup if you want to get loud, stay with 3" coils or bigger.
