purplesyrup Posted May 16, 2013 Author Report Posted May 16, 2013 So, lots of questions and conflicts on the solder soaking into the wire in comments on the video and blah blah, so I cut one open, this connection is purplesyrup apporved! lol
sprkn_ranger Posted May 17, 2013 Report Posted May 17, 2013 That looks pretty good to me. Check out my build log! 4 Havocs in a blowthrough http://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/187506-sprkn-rangers-blowthrough-build/
Airborne Posted May 17, 2013 Report Posted May 17, 2013 no doubt, that is a solid connection my man...

shogen Posted May 25, 2013 Report Posted May 25, 2013 nice!!! harbor freight torch?? That looks pretty good to me. no doubt, that is a solid connection my man... Thanks! Pioneer Premier P880PRS ll Front Stage: US Acoustics 4060 - Random speakers currently ll Sub Stage: Crescendo BC3500D - 15" Xcon sealed @ 3.28 cubes ll Electrical: - Kinetik HC1800(front) NEW***DieHard P-2(rear) beaker- I know this sounds like a lot of anime bullshit, but it is true.
purplesyrup Posted May 25, 2013 Author Report Posted May 25, 2013 nice!!! harbor freight torch?? That looks pretty good to me. no doubt, that is a solid connection my man... Thanks! yup,, i paid like $8 for it if i remember correctly, and its a 2,,000 degree torch, it heats up great, is compact, and does not use a ton of butane either
CommGuru Posted May 29, 2013 Report Posted May 29, 2013 No doubt that this is pure awesomeness and it even caused me to run out a buy a new torch and solder for an upcoming project. But I can't help wonder how much resistance is created by drowning the OFC in solder compared to a good hydraulic compression crimper. I'm sure I'm over thinking it and this is fine and in any case, thank you to the OP for the video. Thoughts?

Its going to be hard to tell without any real scientific testing I think I have the gear on hand to do this test. I would ask the electronics gurus out there to tell me how I can do this test accurately. I have good 12 ton compression crimpers and lugs as well as silver solder and lugs. All 1/0 ofc, solid copper lugs and a good fluke DMM. I'm assuming a good resistance and voltage drop test with a heavily load on the cable would suffice but how to generate a continuous stable load on the cable I would need help with.
Sergeant_Skyrim Posted June 4, 2013 Report Posted June 4, 2013 Was actually feeling stupid when I got these terminals in the mail and realized they weren't open top. Thought I was gonna have to go out and buy a crimper for this weekend but this changes everything haha. Appreciate the video man! Build in progress
