Homemade Super-Neo Woofer: THE CHEVELLE RESTORATION IS DONE, dampener recommendations??

And here is where I come in and ask about EMF, shorting rings, and eddy currents

I'll make a quick video to show and explain it.

Fucking love Alan you goddamned fucking super nerd lol

When Alan uses big words I don't understand

It's warming up enough that the donut-punching cyclist douchenozzles are getting their two wheeled fagmobiles out.

Everytime I see a guy driving a mini cooper I cant help but think he loves cock & (2/29/16)-My wife just bitched at me about throwing out things we don't really use. My response of well we don't really use your vagina so should we throw that out was evidently not the right response. I had to leave the room.

I missed Alan.

RIP 5/29/15 - I love you son.

Uh my bad on the video lol, I left it up on my computer to render but there was some stupid internal 500 error from youtube I'm re-uploading it. sorry about that.

Hopefully this is correct. It gets pretty easy to mix them up or confuse parts between them, I think I said a few incorrect terms but if you don't catch it just ignore it :D

IF it's right, then I hope it helps. You have to listen to the first part a few times to really be able to understand the differences between them.

TURN ON THE CAPTIONS IF THEY DON'T GO ON AUTOMATICALLY. CHOOSE THE FIRST ENGLISH ONE ON TOP, NOT THE ENGLISH AUTOMATIC ONE.

good video.

but i dont agree with your cooling method.

It being wide open is going to surround the coil in air yes.

but its not going to push the air over, around, and inside the coil as a woofer would that is not open.

Unless those gaps are very small between the neo to create a suction effect or push pull.

This is a reason why woofers fail with no dustcaps when giving the same power, that dustcap is creating that suction to pull the air in and maximize cooling.

This is why you see a lot of these style prototype woofers from various companies never meet production iirc.

DD had a magnet this style long ago, and tried it again with the 9500Z series which had major cooling issues, and roasting coils on a mere 2000watts daily. but for bursts fine as a whistle. I heard this is a reason why it was discontinued from a ex employee live streaming, then from DD they discontinued it because the normal ferrite 9500 was just as strong once they added a tiny piece of neo to the top of the pole and made it supercharged. Kinda hard to determine on who to believe. A possible disgruntle employee, or a company possibly trying to hide failure of a down graded model for daily abuse. Also not forget the Z6 neo woofers that where going to be game changers and nothing happened to them and never released that had a 6inch coil.

Cascade Omegas also had a similar prototype, as well as DC audio, and another company slipping my mind right now.

I think the IA Wardens are only ones with a working design that performs well.

granted there are people using these old protos to this day, but there had to be some reason why they just made a few and said screw it.

Maybe Im way off base.

But no different if your in a 100degree room, you put a fan blowing on you your still in a 100degree room but it makes it more comfortable since your moving the air past you even tho the temp is still 100degrees.

I kinda figured it failed since it was never released, but there has to be reason for it just failing. Something was not right, was it due to the coil, was it due to cooling, was it due to money, etc.

I miss the old DD, dunno whats going on there now a days, but its just not the same as it once was. :(

The same logic applies to the diameter of a pole vent too Audiofanaticz. I guess there is a happy medium for pole vent size. Too big and it loses the effect of cooling. I guess many companies that offer a bigger pole vent, MAY not have done their homework. It can have the opposite effect if the pole vent is too big and actually HURT cooling custom what I've read.

OP, I'm hoping you have the former and shorting ring thing figured out. I'm really happy to see this build and I only want to see you succeed. You're a smart kid, keep it up brother

Im not the one you want to try to troll. Just a fyi for you.

That's why we're paused on the top plate drilling, I can't decide if I want to drill vents into the top plate, or at the base of the basket, just below the spiders to give it a free flow air style cooling, but I'm not sure how it will work without a pole vent. But when I was talking about how open it was I was meaning more in the sense of the fact that it won't be completely encased like ferrite motors are so it will continuously have "fresh" air, and they can get pretty hot and I imagine it has similar effects of an oven by trapping the heat around it.

for the cooling, think about it like a computer. if you take the cover off and open it up, it'll overheat. put the cover back on and air flows where it's supposed to and keep the computer cool. then with the smaller amount of space around the coil, the airspeed shoots up and provides even better cooling. when Fi did a neo motor they enclosed the coil.

If I answered you in a well mannered, informative way, you asked a good question or had a good attitude. If I was an asshole, you asked a stupid question or you had a fucktard attitude... or I was in a bad mood.

Yea, when fi did the neo, they also used silicon around the sleeve they put in to seal it off because it didnt quite reach the bottom plate.. Kinda shocked me when I reconed the n3s.

But I do think you can get away with not having a pole vent on a normal woofer, but I think in your case the pole vent maybe beneficial just to get air in there.
