Xaborus Posted June 3, 2013 Report Posted June 3, 2013 Gotcha, it was just formatted very weird. Like an automated response. Sorry to be a jerk, proceed sir and welcome to the forum This post is regarding Xaborus's post. No problem :] I just like to keep things organized. What do you think of the build recommendation?
sublimemovement Posted June 3, 2013 Author Report Posted June 3, 2013 No problem CleanSierra. But with that out of the way. Do you have a counter for the first recomendation? I am really on the ground floor of all of this and have thrown out all previous knowledge on the subject. the last time I bought a sub the rating standard was not RMS wattage. My last sub was a 12" Cerwin Vega Vega series purchaced about 13 years ago. lol
CleanSierra Posted June 3, 2013 Report Posted June 3, 2013 With the space you have, I'd go with a couple of Skar VVX 12s if you can find them. It's all I'm the box. A GOOD quality amp that puts out 1200W should be fine. Since you like dubstep, those subs really smash the lows in the right box. You have a lot of space,I would port a box and tune around 32-35 Hz. As far as HU goes, I'm personally a fan of Kenwood as the other member mentioned as a suggestion too. It's what I've always run, and it's likely what I'll always choose to run. Im not the one you want to try to troll. Just a fyi for you.
sublimemovement Posted June 3, 2013 Author Report Posted June 3, 2013 I like both of those recommendations, but they seem to be along the lines of "space is not an issue". Are they any recommendations for minimizing the space requirements and achieving a good sound? Yes I do have the space but I am being greedy and want the best of all worlds. LOL. Compact and Big sound.
Xaborus Posted June 3, 2013 Report Posted June 3, 2013 Personally i'd stay away from $kam Audio. Anyway, the sundowns only need .9-1 cubic foot (sealed) per sub. That's about as small as you're gonna get. The only 12 I know of that needs less space is the Dayton Audio HO 12, which needs about .66 cubic feet per sub, at the cost of a huge loss in efficiency. The best option would probably to be put a Sundown SA 12 in a .8 Cubic foot box with .8 pounds (12.8 oz) of polyfill. (equal to 1 cubic foot box) Honestly even 2 cubic feet is tiny though, i don't see any need to get smaller than 1
sublimemovement Posted June 3, 2013 Author Report Posted June 3, 2013 i took a look at the Sundowns. How much sound quality/thump whould i loose going to the 10s?
Xaborus Posted June 4, 2013 Report Posted June 4, 2013 Cone area: One 8" = 50.27One 10" = 78.54One 12" = 113.1One 15" = 176.71One 18" = 254.47 So A 12" has 55% more cone area than a 10" To put that in perspective i modeled them both in Win ISD for you. Both drivers are modeled raw (no cabin gain prediction applied) @ 600W. Keep in mind though, that the SA 12 has an EBP of 58 while the SA 10 has an EBP or 68. This alone suggests that the SA 12 would do substantially better in a real world environment.
notorious97200 Posted June 4, 2013 Report Posted June 4, 2013 Where is this going ?OMG ! OP, I hope you'll take time to read some more on this good forum. Don't rush. You can learn a lot from people's posts. I would not run a 12" SA in a sealed box. But that's just my personal opinion. black BMW X1 2.0 l 192 hp OEM head unit, Amplifiers : Audison AP 8.9 with integrated DSP and Ampere Audio 1200. Focal ES 100 K in front doors, and Dayton RS 180 for midbass under the front seats. 2 SSA DEMONS 10" subs, in a sealed box. SecondSkin Damplifier on front doors, and Luxury Liner Pro for the cargo area.
Xaborus Posted June 4, 2013 Report Posted June 4, 2013 For compairsons sake i also modeled an SA 10 vs an Dayton Audio HO 12. For compairsons sake both subwoofers are @ 600W, although the Dayton is rated for 700. Personally if you really wanted a box THIS small I'd take the Dayton Audio HO 12 in a .48 cubic foot box with .48 pounds of polyfill (7.68 ounces) (equal to .6 cubic foot box)
BoomZoom808 Posted June 4, 2013 Report Posted June 4, 2013 A single 10 or 12 sealed will not be loud enough especially in a enclosure that tiny and you will have to throw tons of power at it. 2010 Mazda 3s 2.5L Pioneer DEH-X9600BHS Knu OFC 1/0 SS Platinum AGM / XS Power XP750 Alpine PDX F-4 / Morel Maximo 5 + Coax 5 IA 10.1 / SSA XCON 12
