Wood
Couldn't get too much done because I work night shift and go to school during the day, so during the week I'm going to make as much progress as I can, and on the weekend I'm going to go in overdrive So far, I just took the panels off and cut one of them to see if my plans will work. So far so good, I will just have to improvise a little, but it shouldn't be nothing major! Once I get this first door done to put my skills to the test, I will then start on the second door! Here's where I ended for the evening... After analyzing, I will have to cut a little more of the door (the part were that ledge/square part is). Since I will be bolting the pod to the door I will cut more out the mold the the actual door, so that the door itself wont be flimsy... If anything ever happened, I would have to remove the pod completely before dismounting the door, But seeing how I will be setting the gains on my doors to 0db, I SHOULDN'T need to remove the panels when I'm done! 2011 Nissan Altima aka Red Ruby HEADUNIT: Pioneer AVH X2700BS ELECTRICAL: -Singer 230a -Northstar gr34 -(2) Northstar SMS220 w/ Custom Terminals from 12V Metalworkz -100% Welding Cable FRONT STAGE:-(2 Sets) Hertz HSK165 -Hertz HSK130 -Ampere Audio 125.4 SUB STAGE: -(3) Sundown Audio SA REV2 12's -Ampere Audio 3800.1 V2 MISC (NON AUDIO RELATED): -Interior & Exterior Lights LED -Gloss Black Roof (PAINTED) -15% Front, 5% Rear Tint -Roof Spoiler -20" TSW Snettertons (20x8.5 front, 20x10 rear) -Custom Projector Retrofit (FX-R 3.0, 6.5k HID, Morimoto Mini H1 (faux projector), Quad Starry Night Halos) ----- COMING SOON!! -Aftermarket Fog Lights -Custom Painted Engine Covers My Build Log: http://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/169869-woods-2011-altima-aka-red-ruby-new-video-more-updates/page-109 Retrofit Build Log: http://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/185787-hid-projector-retrofitting-diy-by-wood/#entry2765346

I think going the door pod way is much more "economical" in my situation, esp considering I'm only glassing 2 6.5s... That would be TOO much work for that little of a job.. Plus I bought fabric to wrap the pod with that is a pretty good match with my panels color and texture, so it'll look like one piece when finished! 2011 Nissan Altima aka Red Ruby HEADUNIT: Pioneer AVH X2700BS ELECTRICAL: -Singer 230a -Northstar gr34 -(2) Northstar SMS220 w/ Custom Terminals from 12V Metalworkz -100% Welding Cable FRONT STAGE:-(2 Sets) Hertz HSK165 -Hertz HSK130 -Ampere Audio 125.4 SUB STAGE: -(3) Sundown Audio SA REV2 12's -Ampere Audio 3800.1 V2 MISC (NON AUDIO RELATED): -Interior & Exterior Lights LED -Gloss Black Roof (PAINTED) -15% Front, 5% Rear Tint -Roof Spoiler -20" TSW Snettertons (20x8.5 front, 20x10 rear) -Custom Projector Retrofit (FX-R 3.0, 6.5k HID, Morimoto Mini H1 (faux projector), Quad Starry Night Halos) ----- COMING SOON!! -Aftermarket Fog Lights -Custom Painted Engine Covers My Build Log: http://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/169869-woods-2011-altima-aka-red-ruby-new-video-more-updates/page-109 Retrofit Build Log: http://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/185787-hid-projector-retrofitting-diy-by-wood/#entry2765346
Wood
Alright, So today was progressive/ a learning experience... Ended up pulling the tape and cutting some more of the door panel off so that when I reverse mount, I'll have plenty of room on the back side of the panel... So with this being my first time it was a learning experience... Igot the first layer of the mold perfect, but the other layers had bubles and was lifting and I think it had something to do with the fact that I actually cut the first layer pieces to size and the other layers I just pulled the chop mat which left extra strands and lifted edges... I also tried putting all the layers on at once instead of letting the first layer cure, then going to the next layer and so forth... Luckily I bought a gallon worth of resin and 30yds of chop mat . So when I tackle this this weekend I know exactly what I need to do... Here are the pictures of the progress I made along with my bad mold full of bubbles lol... Here we go: I "MIGHT" hack more off during the final stages if its still hard to reverse mount the speakers the way it is.. I already measured that I just need 1/2" raise on door rings from the top of the mold which will give me plenty of clearance all while not being in my "comfort zone" while driving! My plan is to hack the back of the mold and not the door itself so that it's still "sealed" (or close to it) when attached to the panel... there's a slight curve in the door that may get in the way of the bottom of the speaker closest to the inside of the door, but I'm pretty sure It should be ok.. if not, looks like I'll hack enough to make it work.. nothing major! the door is still pretty sturdy and I can only imagine it being back to "normal" when the pods are bolted in place... anywho.. on to more pics: Both doors are cut and taped, so I get to dive straight into the molding process this weekend when I start over Foil made it SUPER easy to lif the mold!! And here's when I messed up... too many layers at once and pieces where pulled instead of cut to size like the first layer! I know better next time!! It was strong as hell, but still too many bubbles! Gonna give it another shot.. Plus I didn't go as far as I wanted to the edges so that I could make better cuts... but thats all part of the learning process... I can't wait to tackle these this weekend.. I know what I need to change to make it better, so next time should be on point! 2011 Nissan Altima aka Red Ruby HEADUNIT: Pioneer AVH X2700BS ELECTRICAL: -Singer 230a -Northstar gr34 -(2) Northstar SMS220 w/ Custom Terminals from 12V Metalworkz -100% Welding Cable FRONT STAGE:-(2 Sets) Hertz HSK165 -Hertz HSK130 -Ampere Audio 125.4 SUB STAGE: -(3) Sundown Audio SA REV2 12's -Ampere Audio 3800.1 V2 MISC (NON AUDIO RELATED): -Interior & Exterior Lights LED -Gloss Black Roof (PAINTED) -15% Front, 5% Rear Tint -Roof Spoiler -20" TSW Snettertons (20x8.5 front, 20x10 rear) -Custom Projector Retrofit (FX-R 3.0, 6.5k HID, Morimoto Mini H1 (faux projector), Quad Starry Night Halos) ----- COMING SOON!! -Aftermarket Fog Lights -Custom Painted Engine Covers My Build Log: http://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/169869-woods-2011-altima-aka-red-ruby-new-video-more-updates/page-109 Retrofit Build Log: http://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/185787-hid-projector-retrofitting-diy-by-wood/#entry2765346

Wood
Did you purchases a roller? Yes.. and it seem like it made it worse lol... But I have it all mapped out now... I just need to cut my mat to shape and wet it with the resin instead of pulling it and placing it... thats what the problem was... my first layer when look on the backside was flawless.. I don't know what I was thinking when I start pulling the chop mat instead of cutting 2011 Nissan Altima aka Red Ruby HEADUNIT: Pioneer AVH X2700BS ELECTRICAL: -Singer 230a -Northstar gr34 -(2) Northstar SMS220 w/ Custom Terminals from 12V Metalworkz -100% Welding Cable FRONT STAGE:-(2 Sets) Hertz HSK165 -Hertz HSK130 -Ampere Audio 125.4 SUB STAGE: -(3) Sundown Audio SA REV2 12's -Ampere Audio 3800.1 V2 MISC (NON AUDIO RELATED): -Interior & Exterior Lights LED -Gloss Black Roof (PAINTED) -15% Front, 5% Rear Tint -Roof Spoiler -20" TSW Snettertons (20x8.5 front, 20x10 rear) -Custom Projector Retrofit (FX-R 3.0, 6.5k HID, Morimoto Mini H1 (faux projector), Quad Starry Night Halos) ----- COMING SOON!! -Aftermarket Fog Lights -Custom Painted Engine Covers My Build Log: http://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/169869-woods-2011-altima-aka-red-ruby-new-video-more-updates/page-109 Retrofit Build Log: http://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/185787-hid-projector-retrofitting-diy-by-wood/#entry2765346

n8ball2013
i dont use a roller just a chip brush. if you wet the area you are wrking on and then lay pieves of mat then dab at it with the brush you can see the bubbles. I dont like the roller because it can lift the piece you are working with as you rol off it.
