Kwik_Cutty88 Posted June 25, 2013 Report Posted June 25, 2013 Hey guys. Right now I am adding a set of 5.25" mid range speakers, and I am going to add tweeters too, however they are not a compent set. I figured the 5.25" i have now sound good, so it doesnt justify buying the complete component set, I will just buy the tweets. http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_43898_Clarion-SRQ212H.html I have the component set these tweets come with up front in my car. One end goes from the tweeter to speaker, and then one wire goes out to the amp to power them both. However, the 5.25" i have only has one set of terminals. How would I go about hooking the tweeters up? I can run them off the HU amp if needed, but its only 15 watts I think, so running them off the amp in the back would be prefered. But then I would have 6 speakers on a 4 channel? How should I go about this? 1988 Olds Cutlass Supreme Classic Brougham. bassrace Posted June 27, 2013 Report Posted June 27, 2013 You can try and power them off the hu and see if it does the job. I wouldn't hook them up to the amp with your 5.25". Get a small amp for tweets If you feel that is necessary, I think the hu will be enough. Hopefully you have hp filter on your hu for the tweets. Or possibly crossovers if no filter. 145.9@40hz 145.3@34hz big 3 X2 group 34 Deka Group 31 All 0/1 awg jl meta wire Alpine CDA 7894 Orion HCCA D5000 2 AQ HDC312's Crunch gpv1100.2 (for 6.5"s only) AQ pro audio 6.5" - 3 sets AQ supertweeters - 2 sets 2000 Slamry

Kwik_Cutty88 Posted June 27, 2013 Author Report Posted June 27, 2013 I don't really think I'm doing anything wrong here, just trying to save a little money. So these tweeters have an inline crossover so I should be able to hook them right up to my HU and be good to go? 1988 Olds Cutlass Supreme Classic Brougham. bbeljefe Posted June 28, 2013 Report Posted June 28, 2013 Go ahead and hook them to your head unit. Tweeters don't need much power to make them sing and these can only handle about 45 watts so I would think they will do fine driven by the fifteen watts your HU provides. If you're interested in sound quality, you'll want the crossovers the component set comes with but if not, the filters provided with the tweets will work with low power. But maybe... the tweets come with a crossover that's tuned to the same as the high pass in the component set... BoomZoom808 Posted June 28, 2013 Report Posted June 28, 2013 Save up for the component set but if you absolutely must... If you want your tweets to sparkle you need to run them off amp power. They will work on head unit power just fine. Not sure on how your amp will handle 2 ohm stereo but you could run the tweets on the front and run the mids parallel on the rears. You will lose dynamic head room and it will be harder on your amp and mids but will brighten up your tweeters compared to head unit power. I have done it before but it's less than ideal and it was on a P400-4 which could do it no problem. 2010 Mazda 3s 2.5L Pioneer DEH-X9600BHS Knu OFC 1/0 SS Platinum AGM / XS Power XP750 Alpine PDX F-4 / Morel Maximo 5 + Coax 5 IA 10.1 / SSA XCON 12
Kwik_Cutty88 Posted June 28, 2013 Author Report Posted June 28, 2013 I'm only using these for a little bit better rear full so they don't have to be super loud, I think the 3.5" and 6.5 component set more than makes up for that up front 1988 Olds Cutlass Supreme Classic Brougham. BoomZoom808 Posted June 28, 2013 Report Posted June 28, 2013 Should be fine I realized that after I looked at your build.
