Stephen Dunnington
I just bought all my wood, glue, nails, tools and a lovely jasper 200. This is my first build so I just want to make sure I'm doing things right, I'm placing a 15" DC Level 5 in a box that is 16" heigh, 24" width and a depth of 20". After doing the calculations it says that I have 8.8 cubic feet and have to use a port of 5" in width and 40" in length in order to be tuned at 30 HZ. Now I'm putting double layers of MDF so I don't have to brace it, I'm also fiberglassing it so would I have to put 1.5" for thickness on a calculator such as <a data-ipb="nomediaparse" data-cke-saved-href="http://reaudio.com/?%20If%20someone%20could%20make%20sure%20I" href="http://reaudio.com/?%20If%20someone%20could%20make%20sure%20I" m%20not%20messing%20anything%20up,%20it%20would%20mean%20my%20whole%20pocket%20to%20me%20:d"="">http://reaudio.com/? If someone could make sure I'm not messing anything up, it would mean my whole pocket to me edit: width is 24, seeing how I only have 2x4 sheets of MDF. bbeljefe
Sixteen by thirty by twenty is only 5.6 cubes gross. Then you have to consider displacements and material thicknesses. I don't know where or how you got 8.8 cubes but you don't have 8.8 cubes. You have more like 4.5 cubes net... if you're only doubling the material on the baffle. Are they suggesting 80" of port as well? Sorry to seem thick about it but the link you provided sends me to Re's products page and not a driver specific page. Stephen Dunnington
Update: My sub is recommended 3.75cu and when i did W-24, H-16, D-24 with a 3" port it came out to be 3.9cu and 31.5Hz, I'm trying to get low over here, can anyone else jump in on this? slowfkncar
That enclosure seems fine. 3.9 @ 31.5 I'm assuming your sub displacement is .21 which is 3.69 net probably around 32hz. Keep this manufacturer rating and the thermal/mec specs will still be the same.
