chevyboy420 Posted July 8, 2013 Report Posted July 8, 2013 So my roomy just aquired an SVC JL 18W3 its currently in a sealed box(pos i might add)approx 26.5"x11.25"x20.25" and about 1/2" hdf hooked up to an old soundstorm 1000w, it sounds ok right now(gains almost at min),but how big of a box does this beast need? the one now seems small but we got a fair amount of room to work with and would like to go ported but would like the input of some of the vets around here lol
Joe X Posted July 9, 2013 Report Posted July 9, 2013 That box is about 2.4 cubes net, the recommendation is 3-3.25 cubes net, for ported it would need 4-4.5 cubes net so a big box, I would need to know the vehicle it's going into to give some more feedback.
CleanSierra Posted July 9, 2013 Report Posted July 9, 2013 Did your buddy get it from Caraudio.com? Im not the one you want to try to troll. Just a fyi for you.
john253a Posted July 9, 2013 Report Posted July 9, 2013 What mdl amp 'old sandstorm 1000w' don't mean much either If you got a good clean 1000rms in it I would stick with sealed (within spec) or set gain accordingly (on the low side) and run ported If you only got 500rms def go ported if it fit you car
big dee Posted July 9, 2013 Report Posted July 9, 2013 Where you guys from? Wouldn't happen to be Shreveport would it?

Most SUVs will have enough space but you won't get anything too great from it due to the low power handling, still fitting it ported will improve the output a lot in the low end.
