getgcs
if you have a 16v car electrical system and the amps and all audio equipment take 12v then wouldnt that damage the equipment?
Tarball
you would only want to run equipment that can handle 16v on the 16v system then step down the voltage to the 12/14v side. Or run 2 alts for the different voltage equipment. Karkov
^^ Stereo equipment will have ratings for 12v/14v/16v/18v whatever, if they cannot handle a 16v system it will say so. Be careful not to hook things designed for 12v up to a 16v system. Cool thanks guys.. and one more question.. will I damage my entire system by putting in an addtional battery that is not a gel type when I have a yellow top battery which is a gel type? If I put in the extra battery that is a different type what will happen? Thanks
Karkov
You won't ruin anything but why would you add a non-gel type since you already laid down cash for a yellow top? I mean whatever i guess but you can have the two different types as long as they are both 12v batteries, lol. getgcs
it was the original battery and it was brand new.. just didn't want to pay for another one if this will help. but not to disagree but I saw on another page on this site people saying that if you mix two different types of batteries then there could be problems so why do you say there won't be? and yeah I guess I will have to find that page again and post my question there

In an ideal world there could be differences but people do it all the time, even on here. Yea, they maybe don't match up like 2 of the same but you aren't gonna wreck anything running one of each. Maybe someone wiser than me will chime in and teach both of us something, lol. 2007 Chevy Tahoe (SOLD) 12 ~ FI Audio X series 10" w/BP option 2 ~ DC Audio 5.0K @0.67 3 ~ DC Audio 5.0K @1.0 2 ~ PPI 3 way sets (not installed yet) 1 ~ RF T400-4, 1 ~ RF T600-2, 1 ~ RF T600-4 4 ~ CT Sounds 5.25" Strato comps (rear fill only) 1 ~ XS Power D4800 1 ~ XS Power D3400 8 ~ XS Power XP3000 160 stock alt, Mechman 370 Elite, 185 DC Power 320+ Sq. lolitskasey
You aren't suppose to mix AGM with lead acid batts. Reason is AGM batts rest at a higher voltage then lead acid batts and AGM batts discharge at a faster rate then lead acid. With that being said, I have had stock lead acid batt up front and a AGM in the back in my old car for over a year and it didn't damage either batt or my equipment. Tarball
What happens is the wet cell with continuously discharge the AGM and overtime it will reduce the resting voltage of the AGM = not good.
