150+ in a Cavalier LS Coup (help)

Recommended Posts

Knowing that I am pushing 2500 watts per sub, how large should I make the box to get the max spl from it?

General rule is if you're running over rated RMS, stick to the lower side of the suggested volume. If you're underpowering, then stick to the higher side. Less volume in the box = harder time subs will have moving which will be compensated for with more power. More volume is closer to free-airing them in a sense where they don't have as hard of a time moving.

You should be able to do a 50 though with 2 18s on 5k and still be musical too. Guy in Orlando last summer or the summer before had a 2 door Cav with 2 18s (don't know the power) and it was pretty damn loud and I think he was moving some air too.

I suppose with displacement, port and sub, I'll aim to be around 10.6 cuft (5.3 per sub) With all hopes having enough room to get a port that's tuned right at 31 hz.

Sound about right?

And one more question:

When measuring a box to find how large the volume is, do you include the port or not?

Say the box is 23.25 x 18.25 x 21.25 and the port IS in that space, Is the box 5.22 cuft or is it smaller because of the port?

I believe that would be 5.22 gross, then once sub/port/bracing displacement is keyed in, the volume would become the net volume

It could be part of your gross volume but it is not a part of your net volume

Tell me...does this smell like chloroform to you?

And net volume is what matters for the sub correct? so it would be 5.22 - .26(sub) - .86 (for the port) = 4.1 cuft, and that's the volume that matters. correct?
