ALPINE408
if I strap my amps it would be 4 ohm not 2 anymore not all amps lower in ohms........never heard of that in my life. What brand? which model?edit: even if true, sounds like a HUGE waste of time to strap, if your impedance goes up, ultimately making you lose some power... The much loved stetsom amps lol they strap in parallel unlike most amps that strap in series it helped me go fro a dual 1 ohm sub to wire up to 1ohm straped vs .25 if it lowered ohms I did not want to be at .5 unstrapped or .25 strapped so in my situation it was perfect.... I'm still a frim beliver only strapp if you HAVE to Have you ever had your woofers blown?
meade916
You guys need to stop getting hung up on the amp is seeing 1 ohm so it is same. Forget about that it is blinding you to the facts. No offense to anyone in this conforsation. Higher output voltage is better. Lower output current. 2 ohm final load is better then (2) 1 ohm loads. nope. its EXACTLY the same whether you strap, or not. By themselves, a 1 ohm amp, on a 1ohm load is seeing 1 ohm. strapped, 2 amps on a 2 ohm load, each amp is seeing 1 ohm. No difference at all other then more complicated wiring. meade916
just like a 2 channel amp that is 1 ohm stable. In stereo, you can show it 1ohm per channel. If you bridge it, you can only show it 2 ohms.....but each channel SEE's one ohm, because it is bridged. Same exact amount of power. meade916
And what does your clamp meter say in both setups? Strapped and un strapped? i didn't strap. No need. Total waste of time in my situation. I don't have more amplifiers, then coils, to hook them up to. If i had 16 amps and 8 coils, i would have to. But i have 8 amps and 8 coils so no need whatsoever. Karkov
Thank you everyone for the responses, appreciate it. Seems like 98%+ of people out there have no need to strap amps, also seems like other than a couple minute wiring reasons people would only strap because they simply *wanted* to. Raptorman
What AMI is saying makes sense. Less current the better, but still the same power. There's no difference in power amount, but the strapped power is theoretically less harsh on coils. That's what I'm understanding I think. 1996 GMC Sonoma Four Fi BTL Neo 18's In 2:1 6th Order Bandpass 2 Ampere 5k's @ .5 TEAM FI TEAM #LITHIUMCANTDEMO On 10/20/2013 at 0:37 AM, KillaCam said: Fucking with a Prius driver is like making fun of a disabled kid.
