is two 2k amplifiers really 4000watts??

Recommended Posts

I purchased two 2k amplifiers with the impression I could hook them together for 4000watts! After purchase I realized I can run them only at 2ohms strapped together giving me a total of 2400watts rms. GAY I am wanting to purchase a lvlXL or lvl5 15" but now my amplifiers are going to be way to small. I had another bright idea of hooking 1 amp ber voice coil... but my installer told me that could not be done since it is nearly impossible to tune the amps perfectly together. So now what??????? Do I just keep my lvl3 and keep overpowering it, or should I sell everything (that i've only owned for 14 days) and do another complete upgrade to a 3.5k and a new sub.

HELPS!!!!!!!!

Your installer is wrong. You can gain match amps, see the SMD CC-1

Edit: if you were local I would bet your installer the cost of a CC-1 that i could prove him wrong, then use his cash to reimburse myself for it!

your "installer" fails if he owns a CC1 and doesnt know that it can gain match. thats how I use 4 amps not strapped in my truck...

I have Dual DC 2k amplifiers. Yes, my installer had dd-1 and cc-1 but between all the different settings (gain, freq etc) I dont see how its possible to match them.

That's the whole point of owning tools is using them to their potential. Do yourself and your installer a favor and both of you watch this.. http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=J0m9OJbkV8Q

He just recently purchased the cc-1 and I dont have full confidence in him yet. I did a google search also and everyone said what i want to do is impossible so I came here to the boards to ask myself. Can this process be explained to me? (and backed up by someone else)

See post #8

If you don't trust him don't let him touch your ride. I wouldn't trust a mechanic to do my oil change if he had a oil filter wrench and thought it was a cup holder.

Props to dude for having those tools, but shame on him for calling himself an installer and not knowing how to use them.
