that sounds like a good idea bro. its a little more work for david and whoever else does mods to the site, but in the long run the site will pay for itself.

I'm not really sure how all of this web stuff works but does the number of members and signature size matters? The reason I mentioned sig size is because I'm on another website that is huge but we're limited so sig size and they make a huge deal of it. Like I said I'm not sure how it works but will cutting that down help out a lil bit?

if i wasnt already on Roe or Termpro and i saw this SMD site wanted money to join i would just go to them instead.

thanks for all your help everyone! June is coming up quick (our renewal month) so if what me and David are doing works, i will be able to hopefully pay for the year and not worry about this again for at least another year. Now if i could get this site to just stop growing we wouldnt have much of a problem

Just to throw in my .02. I can tell you that in regard to the suggestion made about having member packages, free/vip something like that, I would have no problem paying fair dues or making a fair donation to obtain the good status.

I am a "Premium Donator" on a racing forum that does something like this:

Free = basic membership, you can post, read posts, no classified access until __ number of posts, and editing is only an option for 20 minutes from the time you post something.

Donator = sigs and avitars enabled, post editing allowed any time, access to classified section granted (this is nice to keep scum out of the classifieds), and 18+ access (if applicable)

Just throwing that out. Good luck to you and David in however you are handling it. I just want to let you know that I would join the "donators" group and I bet some others would too.

Listen Steve, you are a good guy and these guys should be honored to see what you are doing in lesser quality film. What you are doing and what Im doing here on my end should be on television and get paid for it but the reality is that we are not. They are your fans and will run with you in anything you do. Photobucket looks alot cleaner to me Steve.

just got a new package from 1&1 to relieve some BW on the video section of my forum......no one should be able to tell when we make that switch. I just bought more bandwith as well from my current provider since we ran out again today.......730gigs for February DAMN. Whoever said "that isnt that much for video" might be right if this was ROE and EVERYONE is hosting videos.....but its just my personal vids so that is a lot of BW on vids. (its not just vids its the whole site but the vids take up the most).

so anyway im STILL working on it but for real, you guys, the members, have made whatever i need to do VERY easy......i buy what i need to keep it going without even thinking twice cuz now i got funds to do it. Well over $500 in one day thank you all SO DAMN MUCH!!!!!! :)

also i will be working on a special banner for those in the $100+ donation club. I appreciate all donations big and small but for someone to toss me $100 in one sitting or $50 on 2 or 3 occasions is just outstanding!

I'l throw something out there, this site has over 3,300 members, everytime I log on there's between 120-300 people online, night or day.

Without searching too hard the only way of donating which I can see is on the main page, surely if it was a easier to find more people might be tempted to donate? maybe a mass PM inviting donations might provide as much revenue as one or two banners, and a lot less work too?

The amount of knowledge on here is staggering, just think of how many installs the members must have under their belt altogether surely a couple of quid (or dollars, whatever ) isn't too much to ask, not like you'd be twisting peoples arms for it? (I'm sure a lot of newer members such as myself probably don't know where/how or even if they can donate)

I finally got some money in my paypal account this weekend and had to go searching for the link to throw some towards the SMD Hooker and Beer fund. I never did find it on the forums but I remembered seeing the link on SMD.com.

Have you considered contacting google about advertising? I have heard they pay good for ad space.
