bumpinTL364
Hey guys, if you don't already know I'm planning a bit of an upgrade for my dorm room sound system and want to make spherical pods for my coaxial drivers, somewhat similar to these: I'm building these pods for 4" Aura 4000RPMs and the only way I can think of is to fiberglass them using a ball of some sort to hold the shape kind of how we all used to make paper mache piggy banks...So I did a little research and that seems to be what most people have done. I've never fiberglassed before, and I'm sure this is one of the harder shapes to create, so what do I need to know about fiberglass before starting this project? Thanks! masterbation is free, and even saves you money.sorry but someone had to say itsorry, Jimmy...beat you to it (no pun intended) LOLDON'T get a wife. Best advice I never got, and now it's too late My build: 12" DCON in a dorm room. New/current build: 8" woofer, custom amplifier block, fiberglassed speaker pods
HHR Ed
You need to know quite a bit about figerglass before you start. Start looking at how to vids and figure out mixture techniques and whatnot. Using a beach ball or something like that to make a mold will work. Chris Hammer
Foam balls from michaels or a craft store, then you can carve them out after glassing and cutting the baffle. I would attach a mdf ring to the sphere to mount the driver too then glass the mdf on smoothly. Depending on power I bet 2-3 layers of cloth will be more then enough, put some nice acoustic foam on the back part of sphere and should sound tits if airspace is right. I might just steal your idea for a little project lol. MY BUILD *****http://tinyurl.com/gmcbuild***** Vehicles 2005 GMC Canyon CB1000r - Currently where any future funds are going. bumpinTL364
haha well if you steal this idea i'd love to see a tutorial! Only running 75watts to each speaker so enclosures shouldn't have to be super thick or anything. masterbation is free, and even saves you money.sorry but someone had to say itsorry, Jimmy...beat you to it (no pun intended) LOLDON'T get a wife. Chris Hammer
parts express has nice full range 3" drivers..might give it a shot for a smaller sealed fullrange PC speaker build. Last ones I built came out great but was easy shape with mdf. This should be a fun one to try. bumpinTL364
Thanks for the links guys, that first build for the BMW looked insane! other link made it look pretty easy. I want to keep the 4" drivers I have right now because they're perfect for the amount of power I'm using right now. I also want to do a flat spot at the bottom of the ball for the speakers to sit, so these will end up being pretty big. Thanks for the help though, and check out my new build (in progress!) masterbation is free, and even saves you money.sorry but someone had to say itsorry, Jimmy...beat you to it (no pun intended) LOLDON'T get a wife.
