Which alternator setup should I get the Chevelle for the Super-Neo System?

So It's quickly approaching that magical birthday time where I can finally squeeze in that, "Oh yeah I know what I want for my birthday, it's electric." (then after doing the electric slide) I'll ask for either a new battery or alternator for my birthday.

So I've tried to decide which might be better for my system being that it's in a classic and is not a very complicated massive system.

I've been balancing between getting a new H/O alt, removing the stock one, and adding another, if not 2, batteries in the trunk, keeping the current voltage as-is.

OR

Keeping the stock alt charging the stock battery, AND getting a H/O alt with an external regulator that will only charge a 16v battery going to the amp separate from the vehicle's electrical system. So basically 2 dedicates alts.

I like the sound of option 2 more, but my question is about the feasibility. Will my old engine be able to run 2 alts, it doesn't have a serpentine belt configuration, so I wondered if that would be an issue. I just need to able to supply the DC 3.5k alone from the second alt, no other amps or other things. Just figured I'd get some suggestions from people who have more experience with it. The second choice also seems to be the cheaper outcome.

Whatddya thinkin' boys??

(PS: I have no A/C (booooo 1971), and not much in the way of stock electrical needs (yay 1971), so I'm not sure how much of the stock alternators amp are being use and how much are free for the system.)

Fucking love Alan you goddamned fucking super nerd lol

When Alan uses big words I don't understand

It's warming up enough that the donut-punching cyclist douchenozzles are getting their two wheeled fagmobiles out.

Everytime I see a guy driving a mini cooper I cant help but think he loves cock & (2/29/16)-My wife just bitched at me about throwing out things we don't really use. My response of well we don't really use your vagina so should we throw that out was evidently not the right response. I had to leave the room.

I missed Alan.

RIP 5/29/15 - I love you son.

I like the 1st idea more.. But heres what I would do:

Run a single 12 volt electrical system, get a HO alt, and the 2 batteries you were considering.

With the money you save from getting a dual alt kit (well, bracket), I would buy a 5k.

The 3.5k is rated just around 5k at 18 volts (the second option you were considering), and obviously the 5k is rated for 5k at 14.4 volts.

I feel that the 12v system would be less of a headache, easier on your engine, and easier to maintain.

Edit: Do you already have the 3500? If you do, that changes things a "bit" lol

I would buy a H/O alt from DC Power(local) or one of those sexy billet alts from mechman, and 2 d3400's for under the hood and call it a day.

already got the 3.5k, could not afford the 5k. The 3.5k was on sale for pre-order.....so yeah, and my woofer can't handle a 5k at 18v lol, at least I don't think.

From my understanding (Rob at DC power told me) that the V-grove system which is on your car can only really handle up to a 180 amp alternator before it starts to slip due to a lack of grip from the belt (if I'm remembering right, been about 5 years since he told me this). So might want to keep that in mind also. I would say an upgraded 180 amp alt with an extra battery in back would be good for your setup.

its a 4th order just because its tuned in the 40z doesnt mean it wont reach down and jiggle your balls at sub 30 hz frequencies.

Regardless if they were dipped platinum and were stuffed in Beyonce's twat.....way too fucking exspensive

V-groove? My belt pulley on the alternator is flat though/. From what I can tell looking at it?

Edit: I recently replaced it (5 months ago?) so I don't know if they updated that part?

Can you take a picture of under the hood so I can see by chance?

Can you see the teeth in the belt? So it doesn't really V-inwards, or maybe I'm just thinking that it's not drastic, it might be a v-groove and I'm just a fool.
