808faka Posted October 10, 2013 Report Posted October 10, 2013 whats up everyone. i just finished wiring up my 16volt battery bank of 6 xp1000s. their being powered by 2 340amp mechman units. now my problem is when i run the car their sitting at around 17.8 or so with the external regulator turned all the way down, so i start to turn the knob little by little while revving the engine each time i turn more, then eventually when the voltage starts to rise it goes all the way to up to 20 volts. i cant seem to get it in the 18 range or even 19 for that matter. its like it goes from no rise to fucking voltage through the roof. anybody have any ideas? and yes i checked the regulator is on and reading good voltage. thankyou for any help.

boostin302 Posted October 10, 2013 Report Posted October 10, 2013 What are you using to measure the voltage? might just be the tool your using isn't calibrated and throwing off the wrong numbers ( just one thing i would eliminate) My build log http://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/143943-2001-mustang-gt-system-rebuild-box-build-pics-updated-61512/ 2001 Ford Mustang GT 4.6 SOHC 380HP 270 amp Mechman alt 2 12" Treo SSX custom built. 6.47 cu ft, tuned to 32Hz 2 hifonics Brutus 2400.1, strapped 1 optima yellow top 1 Kinetic HC1800 14.4v @ 29Hz, 2k RPM over 100ft 1/0 XS flex wire Big 3 in 1/0 100sq ft fatmat deadener 145.3 on music, 142.6 sealed on music Stop being a pussy and wall it off. boostin302 Posted October 10, 2013 Report Posted October 10, 2013 AGM batts like to charge at a max of 2.4V per cell. So a 14V batt would charge at 16.8V and a 16V batt would charge at 19.2V to top off. Most cars cannot handle this. You can use a step down and do a split voltage system with high volt batts and a 12V bank. Or you can risk it, or even look up the manufacturers of each electrical component in the car and see if they have a max voltage rating. found this on another post just a sec ago. might help you My build log http://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/143943-2001-mustang-gt-system-rebuild-box-build-pics-updated-61512/ 2001 Ford Mustang GT 4.6 SOHC 380HP 270 amp Mechman alt 2 12" Treo SSX custom built. 6.47 cu ft, tuned to 32Hz 2 hifonics Brutus 2400.1, strapped 1 optima yellow top 1 Kinetic HC1800 14.4v @ 29Hz, 2k RPM over 100ft 1/0 XS flex wire Big 3 in 1/0 100sq ft fatmat deadener 145.3 on music, 142.6 sealed on music Stop being a pussy and wall it off. boostin302 Posted October 10, 2013 Report Posted October 10, 2013 The OP says he has 6 XP 1000's. which are 16v batt's.. I was talking about or referring to a step down but more of along the lines of the charging volts for the 16 volt batterys My build log http://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/143943-2001-mustang-gt-system-rebuild-box-build-pics-updated-61512/ 2001 Ford Mustang GT 4.6 SOHC 380HP 270 amp Mechman alt 2 12" Treo SSX custom built. If you look in his past posts, he mentioned somewhere that he is running a 12 volt alt for the cars electrical. boostin302 Posted October 10, 2013 Report Posted October 10, 2013 i never looked at his past post/topics so i couldnt go off of them. If that is the case then, why not run one of the alts( i'm assuming internal reg) and the other alt with the external reg to the 16v bank and just dial in the reg to the correct charging needs My build log http://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/143943-2001-mustang-gt-system-rebuild-box-build-pics-updated-61512/ 2001 Ford Mustang GT 4.6 SOHC 380HP 270 amp Mechman alt 2 12" Treo SSX custom built. A little turn of the knob and it shoots to over 20 volts. TEAM SUNDOWN HAWAIIHAWAIICARAUDIO.NET 150Db Club 160Db club in the future I see krakin as a threat
Real96SS Posted October 10, 2013 Report Posted October 10, 2013 I have those same boxes and I noticed its not easy to dial them in properly. Especially when your running multiple alts. What I do is set them separate by disconnecting the positive wire off the alt. Once I get one alt set where i want, I disconnect it and repeat with the next alt. Thats the best way i have found to get them set properly.
