Wiring 20 subs

Recommended Posts

Geeze, 20 off of 1 amp is gonna be a huge headache. performance may not be the best either.

But if you had D2 woofer, you can parallel each for 1ohm each woofer

Then series 5 woofers together and have 4 groups of 5 at 5ohms each.

Then parallel the 4 groups together for a final load of 1.25 ohms nominal.

Of course with all those woofers and series wiring, you will rise up very high and efficiency will fall.

Any reason you would not want more amps?

Yep Huge Headache! Also if one coil goes out on one of those subs there goes an entire group that doesn't play.

so it would better to 5 amps, opposed to 1. Will do. Thanks guys.

Take a pair of drivers and figure impedance how you need it. Then divide by 10.

2 ohm pairs become .2 final load.

8 ohm pairs become .8 final load.

16 ohm pairs become 1.6 final load.

And yes, worst case is an open coil costing you a pair of drivers.

As mentioned best to use multiple amps on fewer coils each.

Static drops are my bag.

Yes it would. With that many woofers, the more amps the better.

Youd want to try and avoid wiring multiple woofers in series as much as possible. Just to make it easier on troubleshooting and setup, and increase reliability of the system.

If you did use 1 amp and a voice coil on 1 woofer went out, you may have to spend a day tracking down the issue. With 5 amps or more, you can certainly make such a job far easier. And it will also run more efficient and you can get more power.

I would do 5 amps instead for sure. Then do 4 per amp with D2's series/parallel for 1ohm load per amp, or 0.5 per amp with D4's in parallel. (More Risk with the D4's) But after watching Mr. Lester's vid's more efficient due to wiring method.

Thats what I'm doing, already put order in for subs.

Thanks
