desktop advice

Recommended Posts

I am looking for a relatively cheap desktop to play some games on, now it doesn't need to be a hardcore rig but i would like for it to be able to play most games on normal at least

Some games include GTA IV and maybe V if they release it, Left 4 Dead, Medal of honor series, dead space, some crysis and such

would this guy do the trick?

Both PCs seem to be lacking on graphics, which will be one of your key things wanted for some games like Crysis, and GTA 4 and 5 once its released.

Decide a budget you want to spend on a computer, and build your own, you will get much more for your money in every aspect.

They are very simple to put together yourself.

I would say between 8-900, any recommendations on where to start, i can handle the assembly but as far as what to buy thats where i am not sure what i am looking at/for? Thanks

oh, and my current laptop plays all these games decent but i don't like how hot it gets and would like to reduce the wear and tear on it. It has an i5 and some kind of radeon graphics card.

dropping ram down to 8gb ( 2 x 4gb, 1866Mhz)

windows 7 64 bit home edition.

*note: no wireless, running hardwired from computer to router/modem*

Good system! Only I wonder if the aftermarket heatsink is necessary since he will not be OC'ing? Stock cooler should do fine on that one

I recommend the XFX Double D line too, have 2 Double D 6870's in crossfire. Eyefinity on 3-24"s.... These things make it look like cake, and run at decent temps.

I installed a fx6300 on my wife's comp with the stock cooler. I was getting around high 40s to low 50s at idle and high 90s at full load. I reapplied the thermal paste several times to make sure. The stock heatsink on these 6300 just plan suck. Switched to the Evo 212 and idle is mid 20s with load in mid 40s
