"X" is by definition from the Thiele/Small original papers:

Linear displacement.

Xmax is the peak displacement limit of the driver diaphragm.

Krakin, are you some sort of mad scientist?

I would have replied earlier, but I was measuring the output of my amp with a yardstick . . .

What you hear is not the air pressure variation in itself

but what has drawn your attention

in the two streams of superimposed air pressure variations at your eardrums

An acoustic event has dimensions of Time, Tone, Loudness and Space

Everyone learns to render the 3-dimensional localization of sound based on the individual shape of their ears,

thus no formula can achieve a definite effect for every listener.

What do you gain by having more xmax then the next sub. Is more xmax something to worry about.

Only important to those who want to push their subs to their limits.

Once you get passed Xmax your distortion level increase sharply so more Xmax is better to play both loud and clean.

If you just to move air at all costs avoiding bottoming out watch out for xmech instead.

I'm thinking the fi q for my wifes truck. I had the bl it was really bassy

What do you mean "bassy"? They are both subwoofers, they shouldn't be playing anything other than bass.
