afrakes Posted October 31, 2013 Report Posted October 31, 2013 When overpowering a sub like I plan to do ( fully loaded fi q 15" on 2500 rms), should the box be built slightly bigger or smaller than the manufactures reccommended specs? I have heard both but my gut tells me smaller would be better. Vehicle: 2014 GMC Sierra 2500HD WT Head Unit: Pioneer DEH- Mids/Highs: Focal Integration ISC 165’s (front) Subs/Amps: TBD
revoracing247 Posted October 31, 2013 Report Posted October 31, 2013 smaller from what i've heard edit: i guess i should explain more. larger amounts of air are easier to compress then smaller amounts of air (if you're compressing it not proportionately). and so if you have a box with a smaller airspace the sub is gonna feel a stiffer "acoustical suspension" then it would with a larger airspace. and so having a smaller airspace keeps the sub more in check when over powering it cause the smaller airspace will make it harder for the sub to move. (hopefully that makes sense) ~ If it was easy, everybody would be doing it ~
john253a Posted October 31, 2013 Report Posted October 31, 2013 If you need to ask Then it's something you shouldn't be doing And a fully loaded fiQ is designed for a sealed box, not ported, so buy fully do you mean fully? And you'll more then likley get more output from a ported 12 on rated then a sealed 15 on more

And you'll more then likley get more output from a ported 12 on rated then a sealed 15 on more 1. I don't appreciate ur attitude and trying to make me feel like a dumb ass. This isn't my first rodeo. 2. A fully loaded fiQ 15 is not designed for a sealed box only. Fully loaded does not mean high qts.qts is what decides if a sub should be ported or sealed. 3. I have a ported 12 now. I want a ported 15 and I know the Q's can handle way more than 1500 watts (rated rms power), especially with the cooling package and other options applied. Not trying to be a dick, but I asked a simple question. No need to treat me like a child for trying to learn. john253a Posted November 2, 2013 Report Posted November 2, 2013 well you are half right full loaded means you took all the options hence me saying "And a fully loaded fiQ is designed for a sealed box, not ported, so buy fully do you mean fully?" so it is not full loaded you just have all options except high qts and i stand by the words if you need to ask it is something you shouldn't be doing as for being a dick there was no attitude in my response, i even asked the question as to full loaded, so yes you are being a dick, because you still didn't answer my question, but by your "attitude" i can safely assume you ddnt take the high qts option "but I asked a simple question. No need to treat me like a child for trying to learn." if it was such a simple question would a child not no the answer?
CodyHendo Posted November 2, 2013 Report Posted November 2, 2013 smaller for sure. I'm a newb, but thats all I've ever heard.
Tecomah Posted November 3, 2013 Report Posted November 3, 2013 Smaller for more power larger for less. Edit: put them backwards 750??! Yeah, fuck that. Fuck this website, fuck SMD, fuck Steve, fuck all of his butt buddy mods, and their couches.^ DON'T BE A DICK LIKE THIS GUY Team Subsonic Lows
