I don't see a d1 option for those subs. Are you sure about them being d1?.

Odd how you "reconnected" them. were they disconnected when you took them out?

Amp is never hot, and that is including full wanging on my ride home from work

It's just weird as hell because literally NOTHING changed.. I just got loss of power one day (where the subs were still playing, just seemed way quiter) then I reconnected them @ the subs when taking them out of the box and it was back to normal.. Now all of a sudden they start cutting out and eventually (now) stopped all together.

to me sounds like the wire may be slipping out of the terminals inside the box causing your resistance to rise and get quieter. then eventually another wire may slip out causing complete loss of power.

maybe it's wired at 1 ohm? Not D1 coils.

I don't want to discredit the fact that it may be the battery/alt that led to a damaged amp, but it just seems weird that it would run fine with never showing any signs of problems (power wise)

When you first install the amp and battery, the battery may be topped off. This lets it run fairly well.

After time, playing loud music over and over will drain the battery. While the alt does charge the battery, and undersized batt/ alt combo for your power level will never fully charge the battery. Especially if you play music right up to the point of shutting your engine off for an extended period of time.

After a while of doing this, the battery is drained enough that the voltage will not be able to keep the amplifier turned on, and may in fact damage an amp due to under voltage.

For this, you don't have to do anything at all, just play music.

Another possible cause is that wires may have come loose at the woofers or terminals, or amplifier. The wires may have shorted together or touched ground, causing protection, then damage.

What ed says is true. I'm running about 4k off two g34 batts and a 65 amp alt. I have to put them on the charger overnight a couple times a week at least.

^^ now I understand. I did check the wire to the subs directly after they turned off (figuring since they had come loose before, maybe it happened again) but they were all connected still. Is there any way I myself would be able to check if the amp is damaged?

Do you have access to a voltage meter?

If not, you can buy a cheapo at harbor freight for like $10.

Check for voltage at the power wire terminals on the amp while it is connected.

Then you can disconnect the woofers and check continuity on the speaker wires.

If all checks out OK, your amp is busted. To further make sure, you can install a known working amp into your car and see if it plays, or install your amp into someone elses car that is known to work.
