WhatsAminiTruck
I've got big 4 completed... used 2awg. And I just hooked up my new Mechman alternator, and it's not charging crap. I tried switching the volt reg wires around and got no change. I did a charging system test on it and I'm getting steady 13-14v no load and 12v that steadily drops with load. No change when I switched wires and re-tested.All of the stock OEM wires are still hooked up EXCEPT the original alternator power to batt positive, and the alternator ground wire. I didn't hook them up because they didn't fit the new alternators bolts. My buddies bringing a drill over tonight so I can bore out the connectors and see how that works... but other than that... could there be another problem? It's the 240amp S-series from mechman. WhatsAminiTruck
Just got all the stock OEM wires hooked back up... still not charging crap. :/ also, my truck started "chirping" extremely bad when I put the new alternator on. I don't know if that has any relevence. WhatsAminiTruck
What is the year make model and engine size of your vehicle? 96 dakota. 3.9L V6 I was driving home today, and the chirping finally stopped for a second, and the voltage meter (wich had been riding just above 8v) sky rocketed to 15V and held strong even with blower and highs on. As soon as the chirping came back (when I stopped at a red light), the voltage plummeted back down to 8v. Also, @Mechman... if I take a wirebrush to the mounting arms to get a better ground will it void my warranty? MECHMAN
IF the belt is "chirping " then you have belt slip issues. you need to have a shorter belt to compensate for the smaller pulley Quote 1-888-MECHMAN www.Mechman.com [email protected]
WhatsAminiTruck
IF the belt is "chirping " then you have belt slip issues. you need to have a shorter belt to compensate for the smaller pulley Alright, replaced the belt tensioner and got an inch smaller belt. After that the chirping stopped and it scored fine on a charging system test. But when I play the subs... the voltage drop is even worse than my old stock alternator. Now however, the drop is so bad... that the voltage drop coincides with an actual drop in engine RPM as well. This of course didn't happen when the vehicle was in motion, but I noticed it at a stop light and my truck was about to die the RPM was so low. When I got home I put it in park at played the subs, and looked under the hood while they were on... and the engine really does wind down until it starts lurching. Keep in mind, my current set up is less than 1000 watts. Again.... no change whatsoever when switching the green/black pigtail wires. WhatsAminiTruck
Have you checked the battery resting voltage? What kind of battery are you using?
