It is panel specific actually, since many monitor manufacturers do not or will not supply firmware which can utilize the functions, let alone the fact that many 60hz panels do not physically have the hardware to take advantage of a firmware update to enable the features (read as: your panel hardware must support 120hz and/or back-light frequency control to enable the functions). So unless you're someone like Cirthix from xtremesystems.org there's no way your blanket statement can get around hardware requirements. Any time you have have a power wire next to your frame put some rubber hosing (or cut up an innertube) around it. Any TN panel should work with the correct monitor firmware as long as they are 100hz or more. (unless I'm reading this wrong) All lightboost does is strobe the backlight between frames. And while that is a neat tech, and 120hz will defiantly cut down on motion blur, unless you have REALLY bad response time, it will be difficult to notice unless the monitors are side by side. http://display-corner.epfl.ch/index.php/LightBoost I'm sure the 120hz IPS panel will look better, but to me at least, it doesn't justify the cost increase. There are image tests on blurbusters.com that show how much difference can be obtained (and they do not rely on 100hz+ as they are just flash demos based on your vsync rate). edit - since i'm nice, here's a direct link to the test so you can try it yourself. Even on my 60hz LG W3000H and Toshiba XV648U the difference is readily noticeable. http://www.testufo.com/#test=blackframes&count=3&equalizer=1 Again, if your panel does not have the hardware to support blanking/blacking the strobe there is no firmware that will help regardless of 100hz+ support.
