You have to tell what you want out of the subs, obsidians are musical and nice for low tuned music, can work in slightly smaller in smaller boxes.

Im looking for a lot of bass, but i also dont want it to sound shitty either.

That hds300 looks pretty nice though.

I plan on building my own. How much space would 2 HDS312 need in a ported box?

its best to call or email soundqubed and ask them directly. they apparently made a few changes to the suspension in order to accommodate smaller enclosures because they usually liked around 2.5 cubes per 12.
