Goldtaz1
Based on all my readings about 4th orders, the closer you can get to using about half your sd (cone area) for your port area the louder that thing is going to be. There is a huge discussion about 4th order enclosures over on the CACO forums that you may want to take a look at when you have a good bit of time (it's super long). In a nutshell though, you honestly want to be right around half your cone area in terms of port area (in your case, i'd say 650-700 sq of port would be awesome) and the port needs to be tuned to the sealed resonance of your sealed chamber. The easiest way to figure out the sealed resonance of your sealed chamber is to use a program called Dayton Audio Test System that you can get from www.parts-express.com. By no means am I a 4th order expert, but based on my experiences with 4th orders over the last couple of years, I can tell you that the half cone area theory for port area is very accurate. Increased port area also becomes more necessary as you increase the power being supplied to the subs. 1999 2 Door Chevy Tahoe 5.7L V8 K&N Cold Air Intake Kenwood KDC-BT555U 1 Clarion EQS746 Equalizer 1 Clarion MCD360 Crossover 4 Incriminator Audio 1st Gen Warden 18's - 4th Order Bandpass Wall 4 Incriminator Audio 40.1s 8 PRV Audio 8MB450 8" Mid-Range Drivers 8 PRV Audio 6MB200 6" Mid-Range Drivers 1 Stetsom 3K3ES 8 PRV Audio TW350Ti Titanium Bullet Super Tweeter 1 NVX JAD800.4 2 XS Power XP2000s 8 XS Power XP3000s 10 sets of Team Project DB BA60 Battery Terminals 3 Mechman 270 amp alternators GETTIN LOUDER DAILY! Thanks for the input man, yeah i´ve seen that topic, it´s very informative, isadly i don´t have a loading wall that i could take off, mine is all glued so i can´t test sealed resonance very welll, guess i need to test, test and test more the port lenght haha, but i honestly can say, no matter what port area i´ve tested, it seems to love 6.5" long, guess i´ll keep playing with port area manteining that lenght Didn´t know the half cone area idea, sounds good, i´ve also learned the same about power/port area, i guess i´ll leave it this size until i have more batts and also wiring the amplifier lower, right now i have 528 SQ of port, thanks a lot for jumping in man I´m the SPL Gains topic creator!! wanna get louder?? check this: SPL Gains. fecupe2001
Working on the port a little bit... Playing AGAIN with roundovers, last time i tried , i didn´t gain ANY with them wich is weird cause they always work awesome for me on spl and daily boxes, anyways, on to the pics. First try: Dropped .3 dbs lol, and yes, i tried manteining same port area on all the testings i´ve done with these things, keith miller told me he gained only when he added a lot of power, so, i took them out and tried something different for the last time. 1" PVC Results: .2 dbs lower!!! After 5 hours testing and testing, guess i´m fucking done with this crap haha, gonna paint the port and leave it without round overs until i add tons of wires, batts and upgrade power and subs I´m the SPL Gains topic creator!! wanna get louder?? check this: SPL Gains. mrd6
SPL is fickle beast lol. I know the feeling of spending hours of testing only to lose tenths...keep at it my man, love this build! soundsystemaniac
lost with roundovers huh? now, let me ask...the roundovers would theoretically decrease port area right? If you just used like a roundover bit or something to keep the port area exactly the same, do you think you would gain? If you just used like a roundover bit or something to keep the port area exactly the same, do you think you would gain? yes it decreases port area, that´s why i built 3 different ports yesterday hahaha, so far, my explorer is louder with 528 sq of port , yesterday i tried , 480 , 500 and 528 sq SQ of port WITH the roundovers, still didn´t gain any, i don´t know what to tell you, the truth is, it didn´t gain me ANYTHING try roundover the outside of the port... on the face of the wall.. gained us .4 iirc in my buddies wall like that love the idea!!!! gonna try that tomorrow maybe, thanks man...
