TrentonLong Posted December 4, 2013 Report Posted December 4, 2013 I have one Sony 10" using it for home use in a sealed box. I thought I could buy one more and build a ported enclosure for 2 10s. I came up with this design. Could someone extend this design and add a port to the top or bottom, which ever one will put out better. Here is the design I was thinking. I listen to Rap/Hip-Hop, Dubstep, and Country. That should help with tuning Edit: Here is a download for the model I made. https://mega.co.nz/#!lMpkTAKR!Fp3ZWVWXaAOFVTfDxhH81F84ISFuxoDTh_1-HKZStF8
Triticum Agricolam Posted December 4, 2013 Report Posted December 4, 2013 If you are going to build a dual driver sub for home use you might want to consider building it as a dual opposed design or a push-pull slot loaded design. Both of which will cancel out any unwanted vibration coming off the drivers. The push-pull slot loading will also cancel out non-linear distortion. Sorry, But can you show me an example of a "dual opposed design"?
bbeljefe Posted December 4, 2013 Report Posted December 4, 2013 Save your money on the second sub and build a ¼ wave transmission line. Well... that is, if you don't live in an apartment. Cause that could get you evicted. Facebook: facebook.com/audioanarchyllc Instagram: audioanarchyllc Youtube: youtube.com/bbeljefe
Triticum Agricolam Posted December 4, 2013 Report Posted December 4, 2013 Sorry, But can you show me an example of a "dual opposed design"? Its any box that has the drivers facing out on opposite sides. CleanSierra Posted December 4, 2013 Report Posted December 4, 2013 Just curious, but you'd wire one of those subs 180° out of phase right, just like a standard push/pull? Im not the one you want to try to troll. Just a fyi for you.
Triticum Agricolam Posted December 4, 2013 Report Posted December 4, 2013 Just curious, but you'd wire one of those subs 180° out of phase right, just like a standard push/pull? No, since both subs are facing out you wire them in phase. CleanSierra Posted December 4, 2013 Report Posted December 4, 2013 Then they world push opposite directions, wouldnt they? Causing them to fight each other? Im not the one you want to try to troll. Just a fyi for you.
Triticum Agricolam Posted December 4, 2013 Report Posted December 4, 2013 Then they world push opposite directions, wouldnt they? Causing them to fight each other? Yes they both push out in opposite directions, but don't think of it as what direction they are moving, think of it as what space they are putting pressure to. They both put pressure to the space outside the box at the same time when they move out, and the inside of the box when they move in. Its the opposite linear motion of the cones that cancels out any linear vibration, but the pressure waves created from each driver are added together, just like with any other box with more than one driver. There are boxes with drivers on opposite sides that are wired out of phase, its called a dipole speaker. They are not used for low frequencies though since they do cancel each other out once you get to a low enough frequency. Joe X Posted December 4, 2013 Report Posted December 4, 2013 OP do you have a model for the sub AND are you confident you can get another identical one? and what amp are you using? Sony subs I know probably are not worth doing anything with them, also home audio amps don't usually have low pass filters but let's see.
