My small build , "New Focal component set" Pg 89

Ok listened to the AQs to work and back. Yes they are loud, yes they sound great, yes they will be staying in for a while. :)

Only problem is that Soundqubed told me they are coming out with a new 6.5 coax and 6x9 that is better then the AQ. I was like crap just take my money then. LOL

He told me they will have better tweeter and better mid bass to them, and that they will look bad ass. I cant wait to see them.

I went on ebay and bought 2 more sets of the 6.5s just because they are a killer deal.

Ok so I decided not to keep the soundqubed component set that were delivered today. I refused delivery and they are going back. I want to wait till their new coax come out.

I did place an order from Sonix for a new set of 6' RCAs, 25' of ofc 12 gauge speaker wire and connectors for the speakers.

So something else I found out or heard today. The 20' pos rca s I got from car toys when they installed my first system are junk. I took out the broken ones and put these in as a temp fix so I could have all four channels. They are crap and I get noise from my alt through them. I pulled them out and noise went away. Swapped the good RCAs in the amp to the other channels no noise then put the crap ones back in and noise.

Went out and took out the RE tweets. I covered the holes in the door with Q mat. I then took off the plastic around the speakers. I will use that as a template to build new door pods/ lower door panels. I don't think I will build a true speaker pod but will cut a hole in the back. I am going to use 3/4' mdf and cut it to the same shape as the door plastic. Then I can screw the door panel to it like the org plastic. Then I can cut a couple of rings to mount to that mdf. Then I will stretch a small amount of material to round out the speakers to give it some shape. Then I will also angel the speakers up a bit to aim the sound. The pods/ door ring spacers that are on there now will not be reused.

The holes in the upper door card suck but I will add something to the hole and then just rewrap the top of the door with black vinyl.

I hope you don't mind oldsoundguy but I have a real quick question for you. I have been following your thread since the beginning and think highly of your opinion. I have been curious, have you listened to your hdc3's much on other music besides rap? The reason I ask is because I listen to a wide variety of music and have really been eyeing up the hdc3. I was hoping you could give me your opinion of how your hdc3's sound on stuff like rock and heavy metal. I remember reading in your build that you also listen to a wide variety of music. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Keep up the good work. I love seeing updates in your build. Those AQ speakers look really nice.

No problem as I listen to all kinds of music. They sound great on all music IMO. They slam the lows on rap, but still keep up with metal. I like Killswitch engaged, Lamb of god etc and it nails it. Rob Zombie has awesome metal and the bass is incredible. I even listen to some Phil Collins and it sounds great. IMO most of how it sounds is by using the bass knob. Some songs can handle more that others so I tune on the fly with that.

Now remember I have only had a couple subs so its really hard to give a review when I haven't heard many subs.

I had a JBL 10" (crap)

a 10" RE audio ( sounded good)

I ran a single 12 HDC3 ( sounded good and loud)

Two subs are almost too much for a daily truck like mine. (Almost lol)

It can get nasty loud IMO

Thanks for getting back to me oldsoundguy. I am glad to hear they play good on all types of music. I was planning on trying to squeeze a 15" in my titan but it is super tight because I am trying to retain the 60% section of my rear seat. So I may go down to a 12". I really like the looks of the soundqubed subs and they are such a great price. Just waiting to hear back from them on shipping costs to alaska. Lol. Thanks again.

Well today I blew the tweets on three of the AQ coax speakers...lol good thing its only 30 bucks for the 4 of them.

I get 4 more of them tomorrow so I will just install one set and just be nice to them until I decide what I want to do now.

Soundqubed says their new coax are going to be better than the AQ design so we will see.
